Head of Warehouse & Production Operations

North-west / Greater Manchester

Strive Supply chain have been exclusively retained to work with a well-established, high profile commercially successful brand of non-food FMCG items to the retail & wholesale sector. This is a new role that will take the operation through a period of expanding automation & CI & as such will provide the successful candidate with a fantastic opportunity.

Our role is to source a manager of the highest calibre with proven experience in running automated operations either in warehouse or production operations using CI to drive through change, will have taken their teams on a collective journey & successfully delivered operational excellence.

This role operates in a non-corporate, flatter structure & will work closely with the MD & Chairman. As such you will be working for a large, well-recognised brand that offers a great deal of autonomy.

Key Site Stats & Facts

Square footage of the site \xe2\x80\x93 NDC c210,000 sq ft combined

3,500 SKUs which will increase by a third in the next 12 months.

Stockholding = c8 weeks

Inbound suppliers c140 Suppliers on monthly basis with some products received direct from EU suppliers & re-sorted on site and then sent onto re-packagers in UK labelling.

Wholesale customers purchase stock by pallet

KNAPP automation / High bay racking throughout main warehouse with added VNA due.

Outbound Transport mostly via own van fleet & some 3PL. High volume, multi-drop

Role Summary:

Oversee the entirety of the warehouse, transport & production function.

Change management for the warehouse \xe2\x80\x93 analysis of current operational & performance KPI data & look for areas to improve.

Implementation of 5S

Oversee automation expansion in conjunction with the existing project manager & wider team.

Deliver staff savings throughout.

H&S + Security review & further implementation

Empower individual senior management heads to manage their environments & work collaboratively with the other department heads.

Manage , lead & motivate 5 senior managers & indirectly be responsible for department managers & c180 team members across the shifts. Drive the management team in leading and coaching staff in all areas to improve productivity

Review 3PL transport cost vs performance

Manage the broad distribution of products from suppliers to customers encompassing Goods In, stock control and movement, inventory management, Goods Out and despatch

Managing stock levels to drive the most efficient use of space, cash and stock management. To be achieved in conjunction with purchasing and stock management teams.

Ensure effective flow of information between purchasing, logistics, warehousing and communication flow with sales, finance, sales forecasting and marketing teams to get the right amount of product in the right place at the right time.

Instil the highest customer service standards and have a clear understanding of the company\'s policies and vision and how the logistics function contributes to these.

Manage the logistics budget with responsibility for financial and operational performance reporting analysis and metrics measurement.

Ideal Candidate?

Must have run a sizeable automated warehouse or production related function with exposure to fast moving, multi-SKU, time critical, complex operations

Evidence of establishing a culture of 5S / continuous improvement tools

Been involved in project management

Proven experience of KPI analysis & improvement \xe2\x80\x93 this must include challenging poor performance & selling a route forward to improve.

Strong on all aspects of the financials inc setting & managing budgets, making commercial decisions Likewise presenting data / reports to main board.

Must have managed or worked cross functionally with other core areas inc purchasing, sales, customer services, main Board, H&S etc

Able to combine being hands on & taking a step back when needed.
