We currently have a new senior level opportunity for a Head of Speech Writing.
The Head of Speechwriting plays a critical role in shaping the voice and messaging of HSBCs executive leadership team. The role holder leads the team that delivers a cohesive and engaging programme of internal and external communications for HSBC's most senior stakeholder groups including the Group CEO, Group Chairman and Group Operating Committee members.
The objective for the role holder is to advance HSBC's strategic and commercial objectives and enhance its reputation with target audiences. This position is responsible for crafting compelling, strategically aligned and high impact speeches and align with HSBC's strategic objectives, values and business priorities.
The role requires a deep understanding of the financial sector, story telling skills and the ability to anticipate industry trends and stakeholder expectations. As a key advisor to the Bank's leadership teams, the Head of Speechwriting ensures consistency in messaging and helps enhance HSBC's reputation, influence and impact through powerful and effective communications.
Responsibilities
Design, lead and implement an internal and external communications plan for the Group Chief Executive and Group Chairman
Work closely with the Chiefs of Staff to the Group CEO and Group Chairman, providing strategic counsel, and delivering expertly written briefing notes, speeches and practical guidance on communications matters.
Support the Group CEO and Group CFO during quarterly financial results announcements; build a compelling storyline that flows through all materials; and draft investor scripts and other documents to a very high standard.
Work collaboratively with colleagues in Group External Communications and Business and Markets Communications to ensure the appropriate and effective use of video for internal and external communications by the Group CEO and Group Chairman.
Design and deliver a compelling and effective leadership communications programme, working in close partnership with Internal Communications colleagues and People, Governance and Communications.
Build and maintain an extensive network across businesses, functions and geographies.
Act as a core part of the cross-functional team that delivers quarterly financial results and major corporate events.
Play a leadership role in Group External Communications, sharing insights into the Group CEO's and Group Chairman's views and activities, acting as a reference point on messaging and helping to improve writing standards.
Member of the Group External Communications leadership team, working to protect and enhance HSBC's reputation among its target stakeholders
Skills and Experience
Strong ability in advising and building relationships with C-suite executives and Board members.
Extensive experience writing speeches, briefings, internal communications, social media posts, and other communications collateral for senior executives or officials to a very high standard.
Demonstrable understanding of the needs of senior leaders in undertaking communications activities and an ability to both anticipate those needs in advance and work with stakeholders to ensure they are met.
Experience in creative communications development, thought leadership, use of video and associated measurement strategies.
Highly skilled in complex risks and issues management, media relations and managing ambiguity.
Experience of working in a complex, international matrix organisation and diverse culture.
Strong breadth of knowledge of financial services, geopolitics and macroeconomic trends.
