Welcome Letter
Dear Candidate
Thank you for your interest in the post of Head of Occupational Therapy at the University of Roehampton. This is a brand new and important role within the university and I am delighted that you are taking an interest in joining us at this exciting time of growth and change.
As Deputy Dean Healthcare Education, I have had the pleasure of leading the growth of Roehampton\'s nursing and physiotherapy portfolios including new curricula, facilities, staffing and partnerships. As an example of the success and pace of this growth, we expanded from two staff in 2019 to 40 staff 2023, with state-of-the-art new facilities and institutional investment. I work alongside a dynamic, passionate and socially engaged senior leadership team, and we are proud to be a university committed to preparing students for jobs in key sectors in London and beyond. Employers work closely with us to co-create curricula and we work in partnership with students every step of the way. We are proud that our graduates are distinctive and highly employable. They are agents of social change who go on to make a real difference in the world.
We place engagement, collaboration, and partnership working at the heart of everything we do, researching and innovating to tackle some of the biggest global challenges, from energy and health to security and sustainability. Our research and innovation provides solutions to the challenges faced by society and the economy, with researchers working across disciplines to help businesses, communities, and policy makers benefit from their research outputs. Valuable contributions are made to many aspects of the economy, the environment, culture, and wider health and well-being.
As the Head of Occupational Therapy, you will play a key role in establishing new pre-registration occupational therapy programmes scheduled to start in 2024. You will work closely with the senior management team to strategically develop occupational therapy and contribute to the recruitment and management of new staff, and the role will also involve representing the School on various university projects and initiatives.
With your strong track record of innovation in academic practice, you will provide academic leadership and management support, with the opportunity to shape the future of occupational therapy education by contributing to curriculum development, ensuring the provision of high-quality teaching resources, and delivering designated courses. Your commitment to the student experience will be crucial in providing academic and personal support to students and enhancing their employability.
Additionally, as an occupational therapy academic, you will contribute to the development and profile of Allied Health Professional education through research, knowledge exchange, and scholarly activity. You will have the chance to engage with clinical practice providers, professional bodies, and relevant research, further enhancing your expertise and impact.
You will also have the opportunity to contribute to staff and resource management by participating in staff recruitment, development, and line management. We offer a supportive and dynamic work environment where you can make a significant impact on occupational therapy education and contribute to the broader field of Allied Health Professional education. If you are passionate about advancing the field of occupational therapy, developing new programmes, and fostering excellence in education, we encourage you to apply.
Across the university, we place our values and social mission at the heart of everything we do. We are looking for an outstanding leader who embodies these values and who can work with the talented staff in the School and build on our successes for the future. We look forward to receiving your interest, and please contact our Executive Search partners, Alumni Global, for a confidential discussion via the How to Apply section of this microsite.

The University of Roehampton has a strong and fast-growing reputation for the quality of teaching and research, and is proud to have a community of talented and committed members of staff. The University is financially sound, well-governed and well-managed, with a clear sense of purpose and values. We are more popular among students than we have ever been, with robust levels of applications that have been growing year on year. Student success in key areas, such as retention and employment, has improved significantly. We have a unique and positive sense of community and tradition based on our four Colleges, which are located on a fantastic campus in south-west London.
We have a proud heritage of providing educational opportunities for people from all walks of life, from the first women to enrol in Whitelands College in 1842, to the generations of people taught since. The educational missions of our four colleges are inspired by the values of social progress. These values inform the academic life of Roehampton today, including our teaching, our research and our engagement with communities and organisations locally, nationally and internationally. We have a strong partnership with our diverse community of students, and we provide an inclusive environment in which we encourage all our students to succeed. We already deliver excellent educational outcomes, and our graduates have among the best employment rates of any modern university in London. We also have a global community of alumni, who have a strong affinity with Roehampton and our colleges and who share their expertise and knowledge with our students. Through our professional services, colleges and students\' union, we deliver an excellent wider student experience and a supportive culture, with a strong emphasis on wellbeing and personal growth.
These are exciting times for the University as we have recently committed to investing in the Health Sciences, and have established a partnership with Croydon College to deliver, among other programmes, our Nursing programmes. This helps further cement the University\'s commitment to enable access to education to students of all backgrounds.
