Role Summary

Reporting to the Global Head of Tax, and with a dotted line into the Global Head of Reward, this role will be focussed on managing governance, risk management, and compliance matters associated with employment taxes and with providing advisory expertise in relation to global employment and expatriate taxes. The Head of Employment Taxes will contribute to the excellence in design, communication and implementation of employment tax related policies and processes on a global basis; providing advisory expertise/guidance to key stakeholders (including reward and payroll, international mobility, HR advisory, tax and finance) on all matters relating to global employment taxes.

The role will be part of the Tax function but will work closely with the Global Head of Reward and the Head of Payroll.

Overall Responsibilities

  • Primary responsibilities include:
  • Advising on employment tax issues across the Marex Group
  • E.g. tax related advice on employee share schemes, international mobility, T&E, and employment tax compliance
  • Reviewing and advising on employment status for contractors and IR35 risk assessments.
  • Advising on IFRS 2 implications and payroll tax requirements across all locations in connection with share vesting
  • Providing technical input and advice for Finance, HR and payroll
  • Leading on disclosure and remediation of tax issues
  • Advising on employee communications relating to employment taxes
  • Advising on cross border issues relating to income tax and social security
  • Providing expert advice on Short Term Business Visitor compliance and ensure all reporting is submitted in a timely fashion.
  • Consulting with the Head of Payroll on preparation and review of PSA reporting in the UK
  • Advising on employment tax issues when setting up new office locations
  • In each of the above areas, you will take a leading role in tax risk management and governance, including compliance with the senior accounting officer regime.
  • Ability to proactively instigate process/control/governance change as required and see through to implementation.
  • Involvement in a wide range of strategic tax advisory projects such as expanding the benefits platform and due diligence on transactions
  • Providing internal ad hoc tax advice across the business including preparation of internal memos, training material and delivery of tax updates to key stakeholders
  • Contribute to the management of the relationship with external advisors and communications with tax authorities, including resolving queries.

Skills and Experience
  • A qualified tax professional who has specialised in employment taxes with a financial services background (preferred), developed within practice or industry
  • In depth UK and US personal tax knowledge required with a good understanding of European tax issues (especially France), double tax treaties, bilateral social security agreements, employee share schemes and cross-border mobility issues
  • Strong financial background - demonstrated understanding of cost accounting principles
  • Ability to maintain an in depth, up to date, knowledge of Employment taxation
  • Specialist knowledge and the ability to deal with complex tax issues
  • Advanced analytical skills
  • A practical and commercial approach to problem solving, and the ability to communicate complex tax matters to both a tax and non-tax audience.
  • Experience in the wider financial services arena
  • Experience working in a regulated environment and knowledge of the risk and compliance requirements associated with this
