Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Handyperson to conduct a variety of maintenance, repair, and installation tasks across Thurrock Lifestyle Solutions CIC properties. The ideal candidate will be kind, flexible, dependable, and have experience in carpentry, painting and decorating, plumbing, electrical work, and general property maintenance.
A key part of this role is supporting our customers with learning disabilities and/or autism to learn and develop new skills in their homes.
Key Responsibilities:
Carpentry: Install shelves, repair doors and windows, fit stair rails.
Plumbing: Install and/or repairs to toilets, sinks, dishwashers, washing machines, showers and repair and/or installation of taps.
Electrical Work: Install new overhead lights and sockets (internal and external), changing of light bulbs, conduct PAT testing on a regular cycle.
General Repairs & Maintenance: Flat-pack assembly, fitting blinds and curtain rails, tiling, grab rail installation, painting, decorating, and minor property improvements. Removal of garden rubbish
Furniture & Equipment Handling: Move furniture as required, remove, and recycle old office equipment. Set-up of micro-environments when required.
Emergency Cover: Respond to urgent maintenance issues such as burst pipes or power outages (overtime paid for callouts).
Health & Safety Compliance: Ensure all work meets safety regulations and the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974. Knowledge of RIDDOR (Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations), COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health).
Customer Support & Communication: Work alongside individuals with learning disabilities and/or autism, helping them to learn and develop skills for maintaining their own homes.
Requirements:
Proven experience in general maintenance, carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work.
Ability to work independently and flexibly, responding to a variety of tasks.
A strong understanding of collaborating with individuals with learning disabilities and/or autism.
Knowledge of health & safety regulations, including risk assessments.
Physically able to perform all duties, including climbing stairs and lifting equipment.
Ability to drive and provide own tools.
