Our SMART lighting control solutions have a real focus on being

of people. Inside our Agile R&D organization, we are developing new IoT solutions with products ranging from our own hardware and embedded software products and sensors to mobile applications, developer APIs, and cloud services.



We are now looking for our 2025 intake of Graduate Software Developer / Engineer (IoT, Gateway Development) to learn and support our R&D teams at our Dartford Office. You will spend the initial 12 months as a graduate, where you will be mainly exposed to different areas of our Software R&D product development lifecycle, and possibly in the future working with the following Helvar Product Creation teams: Embedded, Software Development, Cloud, and System Testing.



Over the past two years we have had fantastic graduates join us and move into full time roles making a big impact in our Embedded, Software and Testing teams. The teams they have joined has been determined by a combination of their interest and the business needs.


Purpose of the Role:





Working as a member of our Gateways Solutions team alongside our product design and architect leads, your role will be to help evolve our SMART building Solution and to bring it in line with our new system architecture.


Some of the things you may do on the program:




Learning the functionality of Helvar products by first focusing on unit and integration testing activities and debugging problems in software Specification of individual test cases, including pre- and post-conditions with expected results Designing, implementing and executing test automation scripts, and updating manual test cases Using test automation frameworks, such as pytest or Playwright Working with System Testers and Software Engineers to find solutions Once competency is high enough take part in developing the product and writing the software Work with the team to break down epics to stories and sub-tasks and provide effort estimates Show progression on assigned tasks through demo Documentation of design Participation in peer design / code reviews

Some skills we'd love you to have:




An Engineering degree in Software Development / Computer Science or Electronics Passion for software development and testing, and a commitment to timely, high-quality delivery Programming experience in C, C++, JavaScript (Node.js) or Python programming languages Understanding of version control systems such as GitHub or Bitbucket Knowledge of testing frameworks such as Cpputest, pytest or Playwright Knowledge of Bash and Linux commands Understanding of continuous integration Good problem-solving skills with a strong and rational approach to debugging Knowledge of Agile and Scrum software development methodologies Knowledge of tools such as Confluence, Jira, and X-ray Good communication skills both written and oral Teamwork skills and ability to work well in a multi-national team
