About the business unit
We help conceive, drive, and implement transport solutions for cities, regions, and asset owners/operators around the globe. From preparing the business case and advising on related issues - such as revenue, procurement, and environmental legislation - to delivering the completed infrastructure and helping maintain it. Our planning, engineering, environmental and management skills cover the whole project cycle. We play a major role in developing and delivering the Global Transport Sector Strategy.
Overview of the role
Due to continued growth, the Systems Engineering and Assurance team are recruiting a Systems Safety / RAMS Engineer to join a friendly and dynamic team focussed on delivering systems engineering and safety assurance services to railways infrastructure, energy, and technology projects.

The Systems Safety / RAMS Engineer will work alongside experienced professionals within multi-disciplinary teams and will gain experience of using industry standard toolsets on a range of challenging and dynamic projects. In addition to the delivery of project work, you will be expected to work on bids and proposals and get involved with Early Career Professionals (ECP) network.
We are working on a wide variety of UK rail projects from level crossing removals and station upgrades to the largest national railway infrastructure developments. We also provide support to international projects in territories such as Ireland, Canada and Australia to name but a few. As infrastructure projects increase in complexity, there is an ever-increasing need for the application of our services across a wider range of industries, including transportation, energy, and power so we also welcome applications from individuals outside the railways industry to support the growing demand for our services.
The role is based in London / Croydon / Glasgow but other locations will be considered. There will be the possibility of occasional visits to site.
Candidate specification
We are looking for adaptable, self-motivated individuals who are excellent working both individually and in a team. We need you to be able to build and maintain strong relationships with both your colleagues and external clients through excellent verbal and written communication in English. A strong attention to detail is essential, as well as having a methodical approach to problem solving. We will expect you to draw on your previous university and employment experiences to manage your time effectively and to meet deadlines.
You will have a degree in an engineering, mathematical or science-based subject and you will have an understanding of Systems Engineering and / or Safety Engineering, the V-Model and associated processes/lifecycles along with experience in one or more of the key service areas provided by our team.
You will be a member of a relevant professional institution (e.g. IET, IMechE, INCOSE, SaRS) and working towards professional registration as a Chartered Engineer.
Essential:
Be able to build and maintain strong relationships with both your colleagues and external clients through excellent verbal and written communication in English.
Have a strong attention to detail, as well as having a logical but creative approach to problem solving
Be able to liaise confidently with external customers and colleagues across Mott MacDonald
Be prepared to travel in the UK and possibly abroad for short periods of time
Desirable:
Experience of ROGS, EN50126 and CSM-RA regulations
Experience of NTSN / TSI Authorisation Process
Experience of supporting hazard identification / risk assessment workshops
Familiarity with tools and techniques for Failure Analysis (e.g. FMECA), Fault Tree Analysis and/or Reliability Modelling (e.g. Isograph)
Experience of using a Requirements Management database (e.g. DOORS NG)
Some experience of design, production, installation and commissioning of engineering systems
Bidding and Project Delivery work within a consultancy environment
