Job Description


We are looking for a GI Cohort Governance Manager to join the Translational Gastroenterology Unit (TGU) Nuffield Department of Medicine, Oxford. This position involves overseeing the processes involved in participant recruitment and sample collection for the GI Cohort and manage the bio-banking team. The post holder will work closely with the Human Tissue Governance team for HTA licence 12217 and will report to Denise O\'Donnell (Clinical Research Operations Manager NDM) as a point of contact.

In this post you will provide support to the research scientists in the Experimental Medicine division at the John Radcliffe Hospital site and be part of the bio-banking management team. The key duties will require some manual handling. Full training will be provided. The post will involve regular meetings with the bio-bank coordinator in order to ensure streamlined collections of relevant tissue. The post holder will ensure all research governance documents are maintained and will act as the collection responsible officer for all HTA related issues. You will routinely liaise with a wide range of stakeholders related to the Biobank, including:

o Members of the Biobank Team

o Patients

o Members of the clinical teams - nursing, surgical, pathology

o Researchers wishing to seek access to samples

o Members of the Human Tissue Governance team for HTA licence 12217

Applicants should have previous experience of molecular biology and cell culture and knowledge of Human Tissue Act legislation. A degree in biological sciences is essential. Excellent IT skills, including the ability to maintain and interrogate electronic databases and using Microsoft Office Packages are also critical capabilities for this post. The ability to demonstrate a familiarity and understanding of relevant laboratory-based activities is also essential for this role.

Willingness to work with human tissue and blood samples directly with patients is essential. Previous experience of working in a laboratory team developing and maintaining a bio bank is desirable for this post. You will be able to demonstrate good time management and organisational skills, including the ability to plan and manage own work schedule, accommodate unexpected changes and travel between sites in Oxford as dictated by the sample collection and processing schedule.

The post is full-time and fixed-term until 31/03/25 with possibility to extend
