Job Description

Wood Innovations seeks a General Manager

, to manage the day-to-day operations of the Walsall sales and distribution centre.


The General Manager will be responsible for the execution of the company's business strategy through close management of the day-to-day operations, and team leadership.


We are looking for someone who can deliver a structured and organised environment with experience of managing a team at its fast-growing GB distribution centre in Walsall.



The successful candidate will report to the GB Regional Manager, ensuring seamless collaboration between departments, will drive operational efficiency and maintain high-quality service delivery for its B2B customers.

The role will involve the managing and overseeing of all Warehouse and Sales office operations including.




Managing employees ensuring they work productively and develop professionally. You will have a solid understanding of HR processes and regulations. Oversee and manage all daily operations, ensuring smooth coordination between sales and despatch. You will have the ability to work in a fast-paced sales and despatch environment. Monitoring of KPIs, budgets, and resource allocation to optimise efficiency and profitability. You will have experience in analysing data to identify areas for improvement. Work closely with the Sales Director, to enhance service offerings, improve productivity and support sales growth. You will have excellent leadership and organisational skills.
Responsible for the health and safety compliance including ensuring all employees are adhering to health and safety regulations. You will be able to handle emergency situations as needed.
Audit of sales invoices daily checking for inaccuracies. You will have a good attention to detail. Ambassador for Wood Innovations Walsall attending local networking events and leading our charity partnership initiatives. You will have effective communication and interpersonal skills.



Essential Functions & Responsibilities:





Human Resources


Manage and lead a diverse team of employees providing guidance and support at all levels. Making sure annual appraisals are scheduled and on time using the standard appraisal forms. Assisting with training needs for all staff. Setting up and organising group training on a regular basis. Ensuring training records for all staff and costs involved are maintained. Keeping all staff records up to date. Monitoring and recording holidays and sickness, time keeping etc. Induction of new staff members Recruitment, interviewing and selection of employees and managers. Perform HR duties such as counselling, return to works, disciplinary procedures as required.

Customer Service


Overseeing the daily operations of the customer services department leading a team of customer service representatives. Ensuring customer satisfaction and helping to achieve company initiatives. Continue to assess the level of Customer Service in Wood Innovations and implement plans to continually improve including receiving and implementing customer feedback to improve the quality of service. Keeping up to date with customer service developments and representing the voice of the customer. Setting goals for the team and checking progress. Maintaining relationships with profitable customers. Customers Services Staff Motivation and Coaching.

Stock Control and Purchasing


Monitor and control level of office supplies & stationary being ordered - endeavour to keep costs down in each cost centre Establishing the most competitive price with existing and competitive suppliers Negotiating the 'best' price from suppliers

Information Technology


Act as point of contact for IT technical support. Trouble-shoot in-house IT problems where possible whilst liaising with IT support at Head Office.
Public Relations/Advertising /Marketing & Social Media


Advise Marketing Department of anything that could be deemed newsworthy, as well as staff profiling and sponsorship involvement etc. Dealing with advertising sales agents from various media. Implementing new Marketing initiatives in conjunction with marketing department. Ensuring there is enough stock of marketing materials for all GB site. Providing content for social media calendar Attending networking events raising profile of Wood Innovations and building connections.
Internal Communications



Organise and set agendas for communications meetings with all staff Organise and co-ordinate staff events including team building days, birthdays, Christmas events etc.

Investors in People


Making sure office is compliant - ongoing and keeping to standard and following all policies and procedures. Referring to report in order to keep abreast of all findings from previous audit.

Sales Support


Leading and auditing sales processes ensuring invoicing is correct and processed on time Continual assessment of competitor and market trends and activities Identifying sales opportunities

Compliance


Health & Safety Compliance Any other compliance matters




Housekeeping




Maintaining a clean and organised environment Monitor and control level of supplies including cleaning & tea/coffee etc




The role may also involve general admin duties, including filing and dealing with all enquiries regarding phones, electricity, health, pension and general usage.





Ad Hoc Projects as and when required as outcome from strategy meeting or otherwise as directed by the GB Regional Manager. However, the role does need someone who can work on his or her own initiative and implement new ideas and processes.







Personal Specification





Technical Competencies





Essential


Have at least 3 years' experience in a leadership role within a warehouse/logistics/office environment.

Experience using an ERP or stock management system

Experience using excel and other MS office packages to produce reports

Be an approachable manager, able to support staff with training & assist in creating and delivering development paths for all team members Have experience with health & safety in a warehouse/logistics workplace




Desirable


Additional certifications or qualifications in operations or warehousing disciplines. Have full driving licence and access to own car.
