The Oak Frame Carpentry Company is looking for a skilled, experienced, and motivated
General Manager
to join our close-knit team.
In this important role, you will manage, organise, and optimise workflow both in our workshop and on site.
The Candidate:
Construction industry background, with practical and management experience
Confident communicator with clients, builders, architects, engineers, and specialist contractors
Strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations and procedures
Excellent people management and organisational skills
Proficient in IT, particularly word processing and spreadsheets (Mac experience an advantage, but not essential)
Enthusiastic about craftsmanship; oak framing experience is beneficial but not essential
Key Responsibilities:
Workshop Management:
Allocate jobs to teams and individuals
Anticipate and balance workload to avoid downtime or bottlenecks
Assess progress and estimate lead times for delivery
Maintain quality control and consistency across all production
Relay information between the office and workshop teams
Play a key role in decisions regarding HR, workshop resources, and organisation
Site Management:
Conduct site visits to assess work requirements
Measure and survey existing structures (with support from the team)
Meet clients and professionals to discuss and resolve project issues
Organise and oversee setting-out for oak frame installation
Develop method statements and risk assessments
Plan tools, equipment, and consumables for each phase of work
Oversee site works, ensuring safe and efficient progress
Check accuracy and quality of installations
