Job Description

The General Manager (GM) is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the overall operations, strategy, and performance of the football club. The GM ensures the club operates efficiently, achieves financial sustainability, and delivers success off the pitch thereby promoting success on the pitch. They act as the primary liaison between the staff, administrative teams, and external stakeholders to align the club's vision and objectives. The GM will report to and only take direction from the Chair/Vice Chair of the Club Board/Committee.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership



Develop and implement the club's short- and long-term strategic plans, aligning with the vision of the Chairman and Board of Directors. Ensure the club meets its commercial, financial, and community engagement objectives. Attend Club Board/Committee meetings as requested Represent the club when requested at meetings with sponsors, and external partners.

Matchday Operations



Coordinate all matchday operations, including logistics, security, hospitality, and fan experience throughout all football matches - grassroots and adult men's 1st team and any groundshare teams plus non-football club teams Initiate, co-ordinate, support and promote all operations for community based engagement activity of the club

Commercial and Financial Management



Work alongside the Board of Directors to set a sustainable and annual club budget including a men's adult 1st team budget Oversee the club's budget, ensuring financial stability, profitability and the meeting of key objectives Identify and pursue sponsorship opportunities, partnerships, and revenue streams Line manage and support club staff (regular and casual) including food and beverage, hospitality, events and sales/marketing) setting and monitoring KPI's where appropriate and reporting to the Board/Committee ensuring suitable return on staff investment. Monitor and record food and beverage stock levels to ensure the required gross profit is achieved Monitor and analyse financial performance, reporting to the Board on progress, challenges and propose solutions Manage the club's merchandising, ticketing, and support the sales/marketing staff with marketing strategies to maximize income.

People and Stakeholder Management



Lead and inspire staff across all departments to deliver high performance and a positive culture Build strong relationships with supporters, fan groups, sponsors, and community organizations Act as the public face of the club when required, maintaining a professional and positive image Build relationships and support for the clubs aims and objectives with the managements of all teams without grace or favour Develop and support a strong network of volunteers to grow the community focused culture of the club enabling the club to balance its cost base with paid staff supplemented by an active and committed volunteer force Ensure that all staff are trained in the area that they are working and have an understanding of the Clubs safeguarding policies

Facility Management



Ensure the efficient management of club facilities, including stadium, grounds, hospitality, AWP, and other assets Implement infrastructure improvements as decided by the Board and oversee general ongoing facility maintenance Manage the AWP bookings, invoicing and including credit control Attend AWP Steering Group meetings as requested Develop a strong and productive relationship with the AWP steering group Monitor and implement all health and safety requirements of the club and its facilities (including SFBB completion at all its food events and activities) in close liaison with the Board Member responsible for maintaining records and reporting to regulatory bodies (usually the Secretary) Ensure that the relevant paperwork is in order for EHO and HSE, annual PAT, Electric and Fire Certificates are up-to-date Ensure that regular Fire and Safety checks are carried out and recorded, especially for evening/night matches/events

Media and communications



Develop, implement and deliver a positive and community focused communications and media policy and strategy to promote all aspects of the clubs operations and ambitions including the support of its revenue generation activities Utilise social media to generate revenue particularly player and social media post sponsorship

Key Skills and Qualifications



Proven experience in sports management, ideally in football or a related industry Excellent leadership and communication skills with the ability to motivate diverse teams Commercial acumen with experience in sponsorship, marketing, hospitality, and revenue generation Ability to manage budgets, analyse financial data, and ensure fiscal responsibility Knowledge of the legal and regulatory environment in football Passion for football and a commitment to the club's values and vision
Within three months of appointment:

an up to date FA DBS certificate an up to date Fs Safeguarding certificate an up to date FA First Aid Certificate

Desirable Qualifications



Degree in Sports Management, Business Administration, or a related field Experience working within a semi or professional football club Experience of hospitality services Social media expertise and knowledge

Working Conditions



Working hours and terms of appointment by negotiation with a commitment to some voluntary support to the Club Expectation to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, particularly on matchdays and during key club activities Based at the club's ground but may involve travel for matches or business meetings and other activities Reasonable expenses may be available
