Charanga's online platform is used worldwide to make music teaching and learning more impactful, engaging and accessible. We offer a complete digital solution - from Schemes of Work and class projects to interactive resource libraries, music technology and training. Everything is built to help teachers inspire their students and teach music confidently.

For over 25 years, we've been at the forefront of music education, working with schools, music hubs and services, national and state governments, and leading organisations to drive positive change.

This year, we're launching a new stand-alone platform to support one of the UK's most prestigious arts institutions.

About the role



You'll have a solid, up-to-date and holistic understanding of front-end web development, working in HTML, CSS and JavaScript on a learning platform used by tens of thousands of students and teachers every day.

You'll be responsible for writing clean, accessible code as part of a team, adhering to the team's coding standards, making it easy for your colleagues to understand and reuse your code. You'll work in collaboration with our creative and back-end teams to deliver production-quality front-end code.

Responsibilities



Working from designs or prototypes to develop new features, and to maintain and refactor the existing codebase, using high-quality, performant and maintainable code.

Candidate requirements



Key skills



HTML

: Up-to-date knowledge of writing accessible, semantically structured HTML.

CSS

: Strong CSS skills, with an up-to-date knowledge of current CSS best practice and approaches.

JavaScript

: ability to write front-end JS, familiarity with jQuery useful, ES6 ideal.

Teamwork

: a co-operative and responsible attitude in playing your part to achieve project goals. At times, this involves working with non-technical people from other areas of the company, such as educators and supporting the admin and operations teams.

User experience

: Our learning platform exists to help teachers to teach, and students to learn. Our priority is to provide a friction-free, empowering and enjoyable experience to all of our users -- you'll help us to achieve that.

Good communication skills:

You will be meeting with clients, so you'll need to be confident and approachable.

Nice to have



Experience working on a large/complicated website or app Familiar with git Experience working with a back-end templating library like Liquid, Erb or WordPress templates -- our learning platform is built in Ruby on Rails Interest in approaches to front-end architecture, modularity, theming, pattern libraries etc Understand the different issues when building for desktop, tablet and mobile Familiar with basic CSS animation Musical knowledge is always helpful, as it is at the heart of what we do.

Salary up to 35k per annum depending on experience

500 training budget

The position can be an immediate start, is full-time and permanent. Join our small, friendly team who work hard to tight deadlines, but always with a good sense of humour. Our offices are near the beach and the Lanes so you can spend your lunch break soaking up the sun in Brighton.
