Location: Kings Worthy, Hampshire (with a view to move to Eastleigh, Hampshire in due course)

Salary: Scale SO2: \xc2\xa336,996 - \xc2\xa339,036 per annum - Plus: 14% shift allowance, plus a weekend working allowance and an on-call allowance.

Hours: 37 hours per week

Contract: Permanent

We are recruiting for a Forensic Collision Investigator (FCI) to join the Scientific Services Department who in addition to supporting the specialist investigation of fatal and serious injury road traffic collisions will also have a key responsibility as a technical lead across the unit for the recovery and processing of footage from CCTV or other video surveillance systems for the analysis of speed.

The successful candidate will join the Forensic Collision Investigation Unit technical team to help to define guidance and processes, support the FCIU staff and to ensure the delivery of this vital activity meets forensic accreditation standards. You will also be required to support the investigation of fatal and serious road traffic collisions and other complex and high profile collisions/incidents. (As defined by the College of Policing APP guidance on \xe2\x80\x98Investigating Road Deaths\xe2\x80\x99) across both Hampshire Constabulary and Thames Valley Police areas.

Key accountabilities include but are not limited to:

• To be a technical lead of CCTV speed analysis for FCIU, to provide specialist knowledge, guidance and consistency across FCIU and with partners for the recovery, processing and analysis of speed from CCTV and video surveillance systems, by ensuring that this activity meets the forensic regulators codes and accreditation standard.
• As required, to attend and gather evidence at the following types of traffic collision:

- Fatal or potential fatal traffic collisions.
- Complex or serious collisions where significant and essential information is likely to be gained from attending the scene in order to assist the investigation.
- Collisions involving an allegation of poor driving where an examination of the scene will assist in clarifying the situation.
- Police Vehicle Incidents (PVI\xe2\x80\x99s) which fall into the above categories or are, in any way, contentious.

• To collect, study and analyse evidence present at collision scenes and, if necessary, undertake relevant mathematical calculations in support of observations.
• To complete an accurate scene examination and other salient features of traffic collisions.
• To produce scale plans of collision sites using specialist electronic survey equipment and a specialised computer software. To compile forensic collision investigation reports using your range of skills, correct scientific principles and available evidence to determine the cause of the collision. To then present your findings at Coroner\xe2\x80\x99s Inquest, Crown Court, Magistrates Court, or Civil Court.
• To maintain a good working knowledge of the operation of Large Goods Vehicle digital tachographs and have an understanding of the legislation relating to drivers\xe2\x80\x99 hours.
• To support criminal investigations, by preparing scale drawings and 3D animations of crime scenes when required.
• To ensure that the equipment and vehicles supplied to the Forensic Collision Investigation Unit are maintained in a safe and useable condition.
• To assist, when directed, on other specialist and technical operations.
• To support Audits as required
• To give talks and presentations on the collision investigation function to groups from a variety of backgrounds.
• Give regular and effective service.

Note: This role profile is designed to assist post holders with understanding what is expected of them in their role. Hampshire Constabulary may ask them to undertake other duties, as required, which are not necessarily specified on the role profile but which are commensurate with the grade of the post. The role profile itself may be amended from time to time within the scope and general level of responsibility attached to the post.

Additional Requirements

The post holder will ideally live within a reasonable travelling distance from Kings Worthy and eventually Eastleigh (for reasons of call out).

The post holder needs to be aware that there may be the requirement to work anywhere within Thames Valley, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight police areas.

There is a requirement to work unsocial hours and at weekends (appropriate rates will be paid).

There is a further requirement to respond to emergency call-outs out of hours (appropriate rates will be paid).

The post involves working outdoors and there is a requirement to wear a uniform or overalls which will be provided.

The post holder must hold a full Category \xe2\x80\x98B\xe2\x80\x99 UK Driving Licence.

The post holder must meet the minimum eyesight requirements as specified by the Constabulary\xe2\x80\x99s Driver Training Eyesight Policy.

The post holder must hold the Police Advanced Car Driver Qualification, or attain within 2 years of joining the unit.

The post holder will be required to attend out of force residential training as part of their initial and ongoing training.

The post holder is required to hold, or successfully pass the UCPD in Forensic Road Collision Investigation Part I & II (or equivalent) within 2 years of joining the unit.

The post holder is required to hold, or successfully pass the CertHE in Forensic Road Collision Investigation within 5 years of joining the unit.

The post holder may be required to undertake additional training as specified by the Technical Manager.

The post holder is required to support the department to work towards achieving the requirements of ISO 17020 and 17025 where applicable.

There is a requirement to attend post mortems as directed by the Unit Supervisor.

Essential Qualifications:

To hold or be willing to work towards obtaining the City and Guilds Certificate in Forensic Collision Investigation or University Certificate of Professional Development (UCPD) in Forensic Road Collision Investigation.

To hold or be prepared to attend and pass a Police Advanced Car Driver qualification.

Essential Experience:

To be able to demonstrate a good level of Maths, Physics and ICT skills.

To have a good working knowledge of the recovery and analysis of CCTV footage.

To have experience or an interest in a roads policing/law enforcement environment.

A sound knowledge of law and its practical application as it relates to driver behaviour.

Proven communication skills, both verbal and written.
