Job Overview

The Old School Surgery is based in a beautiful old Victorian school, set opposite the lovely central Fishponds Park and St Marys Church. We have a branch surgery at the University of the West of England housed in the middle of this vibrant University. Excellent, enthusiastic and competent nursing and support teams.

Strong green ethos - Old School Surgery is a Greener Practice.

Pharmacy team of 10 to deal with majority of prescription requests and queries.

Responsibility for local care homes.

Strong links with local social prescribing service with social prescriber working within the practice

Health and well-being staff representative.

Daily breaks, lunchtime meet up, free fresh coffee and tea, fresh fruit and snacks

We are a Park Run Practice, and we run yoga sessions at lunchtime which are free to join.

We are a happy and stable team comprising of the GPs, Nurse Practitioners and 1 Paramedic for minor illness and urgent care. Physios, Mental health nurses, Nurses dedicated to the care of our elderly and vulnerable patients, who manage the majority of our home visits leading to a low GP Home visit rate. Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, a structured nursing team and a strong supportive management and non-clinical team.

We have a very effective care navigation system and dedicated slots for vulnerable patients and your own follow up/continuity slots. As a clinical team we are passionate about the care of our patients who come from diverse ethnic and social backgrounds and we work collaboratively to strive for tangible and lasting improvements to their health.

We are passionate about reducing health inequality and work collaboratively with community partners to holistically improve the health of our local population. Bristol is well known for its creative and environmental impact and we fully embrace this culture at the Old School Surgery.

Responsibilities

:
To work autonomously as a highly specialised practitioner working within GP Practice, undertake clinical assessment and formulate pathways of care, acting in place of a medical GP.

To undertake advanced assessment of musculoskeletal patients as a first point of contact, diagnosing and giving advice on management and referring onto other services as appropriate, including liaison with GP's regarding patients presenting with red flags or non-musculoskeletal conditions.

Following appropriate training, arrange clinical investigations, including X-Rays, pathology tests, and others as indicated to ensure accurate diagnosis and safe and effective condition management.

To work closely to optimise patient care with GPs, GP Practice Team members, MSKI services and MSK Physiotherapy outpatient services.

We are open and supportive practice. Ideally this role will suit someone with previous FCP or advanced practice experience. However, support and supervision is available from GP's and other FCP's already in post if needed.

Essential Qualifications

:
Degree in Physiotherapy or equivalent.
HCPC Registration.
Evidence of post graduate training to masters equivalent level.
Relevant student training course or qualification.

Completion of FCP portfolio or taught route programme.
Hold current IRMER training and competency for requesting X-ray investigations.
Membership of professional body and specialist interest group.

Essential Experience:



Minimum 5 years post graduate experience with at least 2 years at specialist MSK level.
Sound evidence of CPD and reflective practice.
Communication skills (verbal and non verbal).
Audit and/or research skills.
Excellent group working and team working skills.
Sound knowledge of current best practice in specialist physiotherapy area.
Knowledge of professional ethics and their application in practice.
Knowledge and application of the principles of clinical governance.
Sound knowledge and understanding of health, safety and risk management.
Ability to reflect and critically appraise own performance and that of others.
Good computer skills.
Good interpersonal and organisational skills.
Developed analytical and problem solving skills.

This role is part time Wednesdays and Fridays
