Financial Accountant - Up to 75k




We have an exciting new opportunity for a

Financial Accountant reporting to the Finance Director

to ensure that monthly, quarterly and annual assessments, audits and checks are undertaken to ensure completeness and accuracy of financial data and reconciliations. You would work with the Heads across the Finance Department and their teams to ensure timeliness of financial processes across the company.


Excelcare is privately owned with our Support Office based in Bromley, Kent where this role would be based. The company comprises 31 care homes in the South East, a Domiciliary Care Division and a large Social Housing service. Main Responsibilities of the Financial Accountant



Team Leadership and Development



Lead, manage and develop part of the Management Accounting team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing culture. Provide mentorship and training to team members, ensuring skill development and alignment with our company objectives and financial controls.

Financial Reporting and Control



Oversee the monthly financial close process, delivering meaningful and actionable financial reports for the business. Partner with the FD to improve the annual budgeting process and produce quarterly forecasts. Ensure the integrity of financial ledgers and data accuracy by implementing and monitoring robust control measures, including all balance sheet reconciliations. Work with the Digital Transformation team to develop dashboards to assist in production of insightful reporting.

Process Improvement and Compliance



Strengthen internal controls and financial processes, with a focus on expenditure management and compliance. Oversee the statutory audit process, ensuring timely responses to auditor queries and facilitating a smooth audit process. Work with internal and external auditors to enhance and streamline financial processes, ensuring that all checks and balances in the financial accounting system are clearly evidenced.

Business Partnering and Strategic Support



Build strong professional relationships with Home Managers and Department Heads, offering financial insights to enhance decision-making and operational performance. Gain a deep understanding of care home and service operations as well as other processes to provide tailored financial support and improve efficiency. Collaborate with the FD to develop financial models that inform strategic initiatives and long-term planning. Designing, implementing and maintaining a comprehensive schedule of checks and reconciliations to ensure the month-end and year-end financial statements are fairly and accurately reported. Work with Heads of and wider Finance Team to ensure understanding of audit requirements to ensure deadlines are achieved for the audit reporting. Ensure all checks and reconciliations are performed accurately and on time by the Finance team. Monitor and report on compliance anomalies identified from the reconciliation schedule Identify risks and escalate as required Identify opportunities to improve and streamline the efficiency and effectiveness of financial controls and how we remain compliant and 'audit ready'. Work with the Digital Transformation team to develop dashboards to assist in production of insightful reporting. Provide regular updates to the FD on the status of checks and any potential issues identified. Deliver accurate, concise reports and summaries of findings within agreed timelines.

About You



ACCA, or ACA qualified. Demonstrable understanding and experience of financial reconciliations and audit processes. Previous experience in an internal audit or similar role within an organisation of a comparable size with multiple entities and parent companies. Excellent analytical and problem-solving ability Solution orientated - able to present findings and suggestions to achieve a satisfactory outcome for anomalies/issues in agreement with the FD. Proactive approach to the role and the importance of the position within the company Commitment to upholding high ethical standards and confidentiality Advanced IT skills, including proficiency in Excel (advanced), Word and PowerPoint. Exceptional eye for detail as well as excellent time management recognising the importance of delivering to deadlines.
