SoSweet is nationally recognised as 'The UK's Favourite Sweet Shop', with a growing footprint in both retail and e-commerce. We currently operate 16 physical retail stores and run multiple DTC and B2B websites. We are the #1 TikTok Shop merchant in the Sweets Category and process thousands of orders weekly. Our distribution arm, SoSweet Direct, also supplies over 500 independent retailers across the South West and South Wales and is growing rapidly.
The Role
We are looking for a detail-oriented, strategic, and highly organised
Financial Controller
to lead our financial operations. The successful candidate will oversee all financial and accounting functions, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in our reporting, forecasting, and internal control processes. This is a key leadership role that will contribute to the ongoing growth and success of SoSweet, working closely with senior management to shape financial strategy and decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting
Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports.
Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and financial legislation.
Oversee the financial close process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Budgeting and Forecasting
Lead the preparation and coordination of annual budgets and rolling financial forecasts.
Track performance against budgets, highlighting variances and investigating any discrepancies or inefficiencies.
Internal Controls
Develop, implement, and maintain robust internal control policies and procedures.
Monitor the finance team's adherence to controls to ensure operational integrity and reduce financial risk.
Financial Risk Management
Identify, assess, and manage financial risks, including cash flow, credit, and investment risk.
Develop and execute risk mitigation strategies to protect the company's financial health.
Operational Finance Duties
Oversee accounts receivable and accounts payable processes.
Monitor and control company costs to support profitability and efficiency.
Ensure timely and accurate payment of invoices and manage vendor relationships.
About You
Proven experience in a Financial Controller or senior finance role, ideally in a retail, e-commerce, or FMCG environment.
Strong analytical and communication skills with a hands-on approach.
High attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities.
Advanced Excel skills and experience with financial systems and ERP platforms.
