The Family Support Worker plays a crucial role in providing assistance and guidance to families in need. This position involves working closely with children and their families to promote well-being, enhance family dynamics, and support positive outcomes. The Family Support Worker will engage with families to identify their needs, offer resources, and facilitate access to services that foster a nurturing environment for children.

Duties



Conduct assessments to determine the needs of families and children. Develop and implement individualised support plans tailored to each family's unique circumstances. Provide direct support and guidance to families, helping them navigate challenges related to parenting, education, and social services. Facilitate workshops and training sessions for parents on various topics, including child development and effective parenting strategies. Collaborate with schools, community organisations, and other service providers to ensure comprehensive support for families. Maintain accurate records of interactions with families and progress towards goals. Advocate for families within the community to ensure they receive necessary services and support. Monitor the well-being of children within the family unit and report any concerns as required.

Experience



Previous experience working with children is essential. A background in social work, counselling, or a related field is advantageous. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with families from diverse backgrounds. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team. A compassionate approach with a genuine desire to help improve family situations.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Night Project Worker

Reports to: Registered Manager

Line Manager and Budgetary Responsibilities: None

Job Purpose:

To provide advice, observation, support and services to families and their children in accordance with the aims and objectives of the service.

Key Responsibilities:

For Service Users

Under guidance and instruction:

To work with families and their children , on a one to one or group basis, using a variety of interventions, to identify needs and to achieve positive outcomes.

To work in partnership with parents/ carers to empower them and to enable them to achieve better outcomes for their children.

To work cooperatively with children's services, health agencies and other community based services, to provide the most effective service for parent/ carers and the children in their care.

To contribute to Service development.

To apply safeguarding and child protection procedures. o To support family / parental assessments that are being completed offering guidance/ nurturing, undertaking observation and clear recording of observations.

To support and assess parenting capacity with the families, who will be placed for a period time.

Working from the guidelines from the 1989 Children's Act, National Minimum Standards, Residential Family Centres Regulations, Working Together to Safeguard Children 2023, Care Quality Standards, and any other relevant legislation.

Establishing strong positive, consistent relationships with the service users.

Working professionally and to maintain a high level of quality care and support.

Creating a warm and homely environment attending to the practical matters e.g., cooking cleaning and general upkeep.

For Resources

To be responsible for equipment/resources used in day to day work.

To be responsible for case note recording, contributing to case reports.

For People (Staff, Students, Volunteers)

No management/supervisory responsibility for staff, students or volunteers other than to help and advise colleagues as necessary. (See Addendum.) o Following organisational and specific policies and procedures.

To be able to complete a good level of written work and reports, keep accurate logs and attend relevant meetings as directed by your Line Managers.

To be able to assess and manage risk.

To be able to work as part of a team collaboratively to meet the needs of individual young people and the home.

To be able to work flexibly, unsociable hours including weekends / evenings and overnight. The service runs 24 hours a day 365 days a year.

For Health and Safety

To promote, monitor and maintain health safety and security in the working environment

To take part in relevant Fire safety checks, Food Hygiene procedures and checks, medication safety procedures and checks and to effectively keep the centre hazard free. Reporting any identified hazards immediately to the registered manager.

To monitor the families overnight and during feeding times, play times and over the day during routines

This and Person Specification reflect the duties of the post as they exist at this time and may be subject to change based on the needs of the Department Programme. The post-holder may be required to undertake other duties commensurate with the salary and competence requirements of this post from time to time as required. o Qualification mandatory for practice, where applicable. (NB: In future there is likely to be a requirement for at least NVQ2 for staff assisting and working alongside other staff in work with children, young people and vulnerable adults. For staff having sole and direct access to

children, young people and vulnerable adults, the requirement will be for NVQ3.)

Awareness of factors impacting on and issues facing vulnerable children and young people and families (e.g. disadvantage, poverty, disability).

Awareness of children's need to feel safe.

Experience

A minimum two years of work based experience of work with children and their families.

Skills/Abilities

Able to listen to and communicate effectively with children and young people.

Able to work as part of a team. Able to accurately and clearly record case notes deploying the necessary standard of writing and IT skills. Able to apply Lynn Haven's safeguarding and child protection procedures.

Education/Knowledge Essential Additional Criteria (to be evidenced in conjunction with Generic Person Specification and competencies)

You are keen to complete the level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare (England) within in relevant time frames if you don't already hold this qualification Motivated in making a difference to family's lives creating a safe space and building resilience. Working in a trauma responsive way - (training provided) and responding to challenging behaviours. Relevant experience working with families in appropriate settings. To have a good understanding of safeguarding and protection of children and young people.
Initial Specific Responsibilities

The role is as a Residential Support Worker within a family assessment centre and your main duties will include but are not inclusive of:

Supporting in a trauma responsive way to enable parents to gain confidence and resilience and find ways to respond to implement routines and provide primary care. To safeguard and protect the children and the families being assessed or those visiting the service and your colleagues.

The successful candidate will have a planned induction and will participate in training including Equality, Diversity & Inclusion, Safeguarding, Emergency First Aid, Risk Assessment, and Health & Safety. You will also receive training specific to the needs of the children. There are always opportunities to develop your skills and get involved with different activities within the service. The successful candidate will be required to attend and participate in monthly supervision meetings with your Line Manager, an Annual Performance & Development Review and will be fully involved in Team Meetings and training.

ADDENDUM - Project Worker

The core Project Worker role does not require post-holders to have any responsibility for the management/supervision of staff, students or volunteers.

However, there may be situations where it is safe and appropriate for experienced staff at Project Worker level to supervise volunteers and where a development need can be met. Any additional responsibility of this nature should be appended to the core job/person profile.
