The purpose of the Facilities Maintenance (FM) Carpenter is to carry out all aspects of carpentry work, maintenance and repair of wooden fixtures and fittings, windows, floors, fire door compliance and ironmongery across the University Campuses.
The work will include the installation and adjustment of locks including associated security issues, door closing mechanisms, new doors, door linings and new windows sashes along with other door and window furniture and accessories.
The FM Carpenter will be a representative for the University and the Building Services maintenance department, liaising with a variety of stakeholders to provide minimal disruption to services.
What will you be doing?

Source materials from either the internet, specific suppliers or other trades ensuring that written records are kept of all work in order that other staff can check on work progress in their absence.
Respond to call outs and carry out preventative and reactive maintenance tasks under minimal supervision, ensuring customers are kept updated with the progress of any repairs.
Take responsibility for the quality of work, carrying out root cause analysis of failed equipment and systems to prevent re-occurrence of issues and to ensure safe and effective future use.
Investigate reported faults and issues and engineer and design a solution to ensure safety or escalate where necessary.
Ensure that all work undertaken is carried out in a safe, cost effective, efficient manner and in full compliance with all current regulations.
Use specialist machining of timber to joinery standard (window sections, handrails etc), and carry out restoration to listed buildings.
Keep up to date with current legislation applicable to the post and any further training that is required. Identify hazardous situations, and to take all necessary actions to make safe.
Take responsibility for the supervision of apprentices, providing a range of work that will supplement their training, and monitor and report their progress
You should apply if

You:
Have significant experience in carpentry within the building trade,
Hold NVQ level 2 in Carpentry or equivalent NVQ
Have a Full UK Driving Licence, as the postholder will be required to travel to any building within the University's property portfolio and will need to transport tools
Are familiar with IT systems, including Computer Aided Facilities Management (CAFM) system / other general electronic/digital record keeping systems
Are able to work on own initiative with minimal supervision and able to establish and maintain good working relationships
