Role Overview
We are currently seeking a diligent and practical
Facilities Assistant
to carry out a variety of essential early-morning tasks on-site. This is a hands-on role ideal for someone with basic maintenance skills and a keen eye for safety and compliance. You will help ensure that buildings are fit for use each day and that statutory checks are carried out in accordance with required schedules.
Key Responsibilities
Carry out routine
compliance checks
including:
Emergency lighting function tests
Fire door checks
Weekly fire alarm sounder tests
(as instructed)
Water temperature checks
to support legionella control
Complete
basic DIY tasks
, such as:
Replacing door locks or hinges
Fitting toilet seats or other small fixtures
Minor repairs to classroom furniture and fittings
Support daily operational readiness, including:
Visual safety inspections of internal and external areas
Reporting hazards or repair requirements to the line manager
Clearing debris and emptying bins around key access points
Replenish cleaning and hygiene supplies in washrooms and communal areas
Keep playgrounds, paths, and entry points tidy and hazard-free
Essential Requirements
A practical, hands-on approach with basic DIY/maintenance experience
Confidence using hand tools for small repairs and installations
Understanding of health & safety principles and building compliance checks (training will be provided)
Ability to work independently and take initiative
Excellent timekeeping and a positive, reliable attitude
Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to undergo one)
Desirable Experience
Experience in a facilities, caretaking, or building compliance support role
Familiarity with school or similar premises maintenance routines
Awareness of HSE and statutory inspection protocols
