About you
We are looking for someone with experience of developing and implementing community engagement projects within the cultural sector. With a real commitment to inclusion, you will know how to work with various communities of interest and understand how to engage and inspire people of all ages and backgrounds.
You will be qualified to degree level in a relevant subject or be able to demonstrate equivalent experience of planning and delivering community engagement projects in a museum, arts or heritage setting. An enthusiastic person who can demonstrate a high level of creativity, initiative and innovation, you will be passionate about co-creation, involving people and giving them a voice within the museum.
You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to manage a complex project and work to deadlines. You should be able to motivate staff, freelancers and volunteers and enjoy working in a team environment.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is well-organised and focused, able to develop relationships and work in partnership with community organisations.
About the role
You will be working with a number of community organisations to develop responses to RAMM\'s collections. Working primarily with the museum\'s local history collection, you will plan and organise workshops and creative activities to generate rich content for inclusion in the museum\'s collections database. This will involve working with a wide variety of partners and people from under-served groups, for example, older people, people in temporary housing, people from diverse ethnic communities, LGBTQ+ people and those from lower socio-economic backgrounds.
You will work closely with the digital lead to enable the transfer of the content created by communities into the collections database and gallery interpretation. You will be responsible for managing freelance engagement specialists and creative practitioners and work with an external evaluator to gather appropriate data and information for evaluation.
This role is working 11.1 hours/week which is the equivalent of one and a half days a week.
About the team
A flagship service of Exeter City Council, RAMM is an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation. It has world-class collections some of which are Designated of national and international importance by ACE. Following a major redevelopment and reinterpretation project, RAMM was Art Fund Museum of the Year in 2012.
RAMM exists to enhance the lives of people living, working and visiting Exeter. It is a place of discovery which encourages everyone to be curious, using its local and global collections to ground people and connect them to the world around them. RAMM\'s collections can help us to understand and acknowledge what happened in the past and contemplate the challenges of our future.
The Engagement Officer role sits within the museum\'s audience development team which consists of events, learning and engagement, skills development and volunteering officers, as well as marketing, design and data. The team is focused on encouraging as many people as possible, from all ages and backgrounds, to come to the museum and be inspired by its collections. The Engagement Officer will also work very closely with the collections and content team which includes curatorial, digital and exhibitions staff.
