Position Summary

CNA Hardy is looking for an experienced energy underwriter who will have shared responsibility for a global portfolio. The energy team underwrite across upstream, midstream, downstream, offshore renewables and energy liabilities in line with the Syndicate Business Plan.

The team forms part of the wider natural resources proposition which includes power generation and onshore renewables, mining and casualty. Based in London, the team underwrite a global book utilising the Lloyd\xe2\x80\x99s platform and company stamp when required.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist the class manager in executing the strategic direction and business performance of the energy portfolio in line with the Syndicate Business Plan
• Ability to issue quotes and lead business
• Negotiates with brokers to reach positive and profitable outcomes
• Determines appropriate pricing based on financial and competitive analysis in line with compliance requirements
• Develops and maintains strong broker and client relationships
• Notifies brokers of adverse underwriting decisions, rate appeals, underwriting requirements, status and declinatures
• Works within specific limits of authority on assignments requiring significant technical complexity and coordination
• Utilises underwriting policies and guidelines, rating manual rules, and insurance laws and regulations while finding creative solutions
• May provide guidance and assistance to other underwriters and to other functional areas, particularly when related to cross-sell opportunities within our Natural Resources proposition
• Keeps current on state/territory issues and regulations, industry activity and trends
• Utilise advanced functionality in relevant CNA systems to perform day-to-day activities
• Works with more senior underwriters or management on risks exceeding authority level or requiring referral
• May perform additional duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

• Sound knowledge of the energy market
• Adequate technical underwriting experience including understanding of products, coverages and wordings
• Appropriate knowledge of all relevant regulatory and legal requirements applicable to the position
• Strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills. Ability to effectively interact with all levels of CNA\'s internal and external business partners
• Ability to work independently
• Strong ability to identify, analyse and solve problems as well as the ability to learn rapidly, adapt quickly to change, and to manage and prioritise multiple concurrent projects
• Ability to exercise independent judgment and to make critical business decisions effectively.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite as well as other business-related software.
• Demonstrated leadership skills
