ABOUT THE ROLE
The Efficiency and Electrification Segment Leader will shape and drive the growth agenda for John Crane related to low-carbon electricity applications, evaluating select opportunities in energy efficiency, concentrated solar, energy storage, industrial electrification, and electric vehicle batteries. This role will define the overall growth strategy into select markets, defining attractive play zones to prioritize investment and capital in both near and long-term perspectives. The Segment Leader will also collaborate closely with the Sales & Aftermarket teams to support the sales process of existing products into these markets, identify new revenue growth opportunities including business models, build relationships with new target customers, and be the application subject matter expert (SME) in customer discussions. Critically, the Segment Leader will evaluate new emerging technologies, business models, and solutions in these markets, synthesizing the findings to provide guidance to our Portfolio and R&D teams on portfolio technology and new product developments. The successful candidate must be comfortable working in a matrix environment, has a track record of multi-functional collaboration, interacting with senior-level executives (internally and externally), as well as being a role model of the Smiths Leadership Behaviours.

Define and own the strategic vision and execution plan for John Crane in electrification, working collaboratively with JC Strategy, Sales & Aftermarket, and Portfolio teams Evaluate the market size, growth, key drivers, future outlook, and regulatory trends across the targeted electrification segments, and then prioritize the key attractive markets to focus Explore and assess emerging technologies, service and business models and translate to actionable business opportunities - both organic and inorganic fit with John Crane Pitch and execute new business or service model ideas, working closely with Sales and Portfolio teams to develop minimum viable product (MVP) that could be scaled Guide Portfolio and R&D teams on new product development opportunities in Electrification & Efficiency segments, supporting internal teams on prioritized NPDs Working closely with the Sales team, develop a prioritized list of target projects, countries and customers to focus including the Go-to market approach Support Sales in growing market share of existing products sold into targeted opportunities, including Projects team on large capital projects in greenfield & retrofit electrification sites Support Sales in building relationships with new companies (EPC, OEM and end use customers) Develop key business metrics (win rate, sales, margin, etc), monitor progress, provide regular reporting to leadership teams, and highlight areas of concerns for senior management Work cross-functionally with Marketing and Sales to develop external customer sales packs and internal training documents to educate the John Crane organization on efficiency and electrification Develop and present white papers on efficiency and electrification technologies and solutions for trade associations, universities, colleges and conferences, to build the image of John Crane as a thought leader Work closely with Corporate Affairs team to share latest development on government policy and incentives. Advise, advocate and influence decisionmakers within governments and other public sector stakeholders
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Training: Degree in engineering (preferably electrical or mechanical engineering or industrial engineering) or equivalent work experience Commercial and specifically business development experience required Experience and Capabilities: Minimum 10 years of experience in an industrial or energy company, with at least 5 years in techno-commercial sales or strategy, clearly demonstrating successful value creation Deep knowledge and experience working in concentrated solar, energy storage, industrial electrification, electric vehicle batteries, or energy efficiency. The experience can be working at an End User, EPC, or an OEM providing equipment and solutions to these applications Working knowledge and experience around rotating equipment such as pumping, compression and filtration applications in those processes is a plus (but not required) Ability to conduct key market segment analyses including size, outlook, competitor landscape, etc. and work comfortably in an uncertain environment Ability to assess current and future technology trends, understanding implications for the industry, customers, and John Crane Previous customer facing experience is important and the ideal candidate should be able to demonstrate an ability to quickly establish credibility within the customer base, building strong relationships An ability to work within a matrix organization with sales and engineering to identify new opportunities Willingness to travel on a regular basis (both domestically and internationally) - up to 25% Self-starter and highly motivated to achieve results with minimal direct supervision. Excellent people skills and ability to influence senior stakeholders and peers Good written and verbal communication skills, a proficiency in MS Office and an understanding of SAP would be beneficial.
