Applications are invited for an ELIXIR-UK Communications Officer to join the ELIXIR -UK Co-ordination Office at the Earlham Institute, based in Norwich, UK.
Background:
This role is within ELIXIR-UK, an expanding national community of life science researchers. ELIXIR-UK is a consortium of 24 research organisations and represents the UK in the ELIXIR European life science infrastructure. ELIXIR is an intergovernmental organisation that coordinates life science resources from across Europe to form a single infrastructure, so that researchers can more easily find, analyse and share data, exchange expertise, and implement best practices.
The Earlham Institute (EI) is the lead organisation of ELIXIR-UK and is unique in the UK in combining advanced capabilities in bioinformatics and genomics research. It is based at a dedicated building on the Norwich Research Park close to Norwich. EI and its fellow BBSRC-supported institutes form a vibrant community with a rich mix of staff that provides ample opportunities for skills and knowledge development across the board from computer science and computational biology to wet-lab biology. Development of ELIXIR-UK\'s activities at EI will play a key role in establishing EI as an internationally recognised centre for bioinformatics.
The role:
The Communications Officer will engage with the life science community in UK and abroad to promote the work of ELIXIR-UK, the UK Node of ELIXIR (the European Infrastructure for Life Science data). The role involves gaining an overview of ELIXIR-UK\'s and ELIXIR\'s activities and building and maintaining strong relationships across a range of stakeholders to promote the UK ELIXIR Node, which is regarded as a strategically important activity by the Research Councils.
The ideal candidate:
The ideal candidate will have a degree or equivalent in a relevant subject, it is essential for the post holder to have knowledge of biosciences or computational biology/bioinformatics and be familiar with content management platforms and publishing tools.
You will have experience in communicating complex scientific ideas to different target audiences, ranging from scientists to the general public.
The post holder will have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal with the ability to interact confidently with senior members of the UK and European academic communities, senior management at ELIXIR and senior Research Council staff.
Additional information:
Salary on appointment will be within the range \xc2\xa334,950 to \xc2\xa343,750 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. This is a full-time or part-time post for a contract of 24 months.
