Who are we looking for?

In this role you will provide electronic engineering capabilities and expertise working across UKAEA projects and programmes.

You\'ll be responsible for leading and delivering electronic systems for UKAEA projects and programmes. This includes specification, design, development, build, test, commissioning and maintenance of electronic cards/assemblies/sub-assemblies and control & instrumentation systems.

You will lead and take full ownership for medium to large work packages associated with potentially hazardous equipment, complex installation / modification tasks, and technical studies including preparation of documentation.

You\'ll also supervise staff and contractors in the installation and commissioning of electronic systems.

What will you be responsible for?
  • Working with Engineers and Technicians to design, install and commission electronic systems.
  • Ensuring timely delivery of assigned projects within specification, informing project budget holders and working with a project manager.
  • Electronics design, including to generate schematics and Printed Circuit Board (PCB) layout using CAD software.
  • FPGA programming.
  • Make appropriate use of modelling and design tools (e.g. PSIM, MatLab, Simulink, and CAD).
  • Prepare work control documentation for plant related activities and supervise electricians/fitters and technicians that are undertaking the work.
Qualifications

Essential skills, experience and competence required
  • A degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent, and relevant professional experience in an engineering role, or HND in Electrical/Electronic discipline, or equivalent qualification level, with a greater breadth and depth of experience/knowledge.
  • High level of experience in design, installation and testing of electronic software and hardware systems.
  • Good communication and influencing skills with the ability to work and communicate with an interdisciplinary team of engineers, scientists, technicians and external stakeholders.
  • FPGA programming experience.
  • Experience in using CAD software for Electronics circuits and PCB design.
