We are looking for an experienced science education and engagement practitioner with proven relevant laboratory skills, to implement the Roslin Institute\'s award-winning Public Engagement with Research (PER) programme. The role is based in the Roslin Institute Public Engagement team at the University of Edinburgh\'s Easter Bush Campus, and the majority of the PER programme is delivered on campus at the Easter Bush Science Outreach Centre (EBSOC), a laboratory space purpose-built for public engagement.

This post is advertised as full-time (35 hours per week), but we are open to considering flexible working patterns. We will also consider requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working. The Roslin Institute PER programme runs year-round, and the job will also involve occasional evening and weekend work as required to deliver the programme to our diverse audiences.

The Opportunity:

This role is a unique opportunity to deliver the Roslin Institute\'s award-winning PER programme, which aligns with and is supported by strategic research funding from the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council. This funding supports research into genes and traits for healthy animals, and prevention and control of infectious diseases, allowing Roslin\'s experts to develop the Institute\'s overall research themes of sustainable agriculture, controlling diseases and enhancing health.

The PER programme includes in-person and online research-linked activities for primary, secondary and international schools, FE colleges, adult learners and teachers; as well as events for community groups and the wider public. The job will involve the delivery of up to three activities per week, day-to-day running of the Easter Bush Science Outreach Centre, and provision of management, training and support for the EBSOC Assistant and the teams of staff and students who support the PER programme.

The role will also support the development and delivery of staff and student training, and teacher CPD. The post holder will also work with the rest of the PE team to update existing and create new activities when needed, to ensure all content is relevant to our priority audiences and showcases the strategic research carried out at the Roslin Institute.

Your skills and attributes for success:

• A degree in biological sciences or a related subject, plus a minimum of 2 years\' relevant experience working in science engagement and/or education.
• Proven molecular biology laboratory skills and technical knowledge relevant to the Roslin Institute\'s PER programme.
• Experience of developing and delivering science engagement activities/events for non-specialist audiences.
• Knowledge of current issues in Public Engagement with Research, and familiarity with the concepts delivered via public engagement and science communications training.
• Pro-active self-starter, able to work independently and flexibly (including working hours).
