The opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for a first role in publishing, working on Bloomsbury\xe2\x80\x99s outstanding major reference works programme. The editorial assistant will work on large-scale print and digital projects across a range of subject areas in the Visual Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.

The role sits in the Bloomsbury Academic and Professional division and reports into the Editorial Director, Major Reference Works. The role is based in Oxford.

The role

Working with the Editorial Manager, Major Reference Works, the editorial assistant provides:

  • Editorial and administrative support to external editors and contributors to major reference works \xe2\x80\x93 issuing contracts and guidelines, responding to queries, generating progress reports
  • Oversight of projects via our dedicated content management system to ensure they progress smoothly and in line with their schedules
  • Management of copyright permissions for images and other third-party content
  • Preparation of manuscripts and image content for production
  • Liaison with senior editors across the Academic lists as necessary
Knowledge, skills and experience

Candidates should demonstrate:
  • A working knowledge of Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Strong organizational skills and efficient time management
  • Good communication skills and confidence in dealing with internal and external contacts
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize appropriately
  • Good teamwork and relationship-building skills
  • Commercial awareness and customer focus
Additional information

The role is a full-time permanent position.

The Annual Salary is \xc2\xa325,000 per annum.

The role is based at our Oxford office, Kemp House, Chawley Park, Cumnor Hill, Oxford OX2 9PH on a hybrid working pattern of 2 days office based / 3 days home based (or fully office based if preferred). Allocated offices days are: Wednesday and Thursday.

As an Assistant role, this position is eligible for Bloomsbury\xe2\x80\x99s Rental Deposit Loan Scheme. To assist candidates who want to start and to establish a career in publishing, Bloomsbury offers an interest-free rental deposit to support securing somewhere to live. The rental deposit loan can be up to \xc2\xa33,000 and will be paid back over 2 years.
