We have an exciting opportunity for an organised, creative and confident Editor to join us at Ebury, where you will help make our next bestsellers a reality.
Reporting to the BBC Books Publishing Director and joining at team of 4, you\xe2\x80\x99ll manage a wide list of books and brands in cookery, memoir, lifestyle, pop culture, and more across BBC and other Ebury imprints.
This role is offered on a 12-month fixed term contract, covering a period of parental leave in the team from February 2024.
About the role

You\xe2\x80\x99ll be responsible for guiding a mix of illustrated and text-led books through the critical path to publication. You\xe2\x80\x99ll be an experienced editor capable of taking on multiple projects, some of which you\xe2\x80\x99ll be joining half way through.
The role is a great opportunity to get involved in a list that spreads across the breadth of non-fiction, including smart thinking, lifestyle, self-help and memoir. On a day-to-day basis, you can expect to be:


  • Setting and managing editorial schedules,
  • Maintaining editorial budgets and hiring freelance teams across editorial and design,
  • Editing manuscripts for a select number of titles,
  • Writing title information sheets, cover copy, and other marketing materials,
  • Briefing covers and interior design for each of your books,
  • Organising photo shoots for both interiors and covers,
  • Liaising with in-house teams, authors, agents, designers, photographers, television producers and executives across the BBC,
  • Working with our rights team across international co-editions,
  • Contributing to New Ideas meetings, to spot trends in editorial and design, and
  • Presenting titles at monthly sales launches and other meetings.

What you\xe2\x80\x99ll bring
We\xe2\x80\x99re looking for someone with demonstable experience working with colour, illustrated books. You may currently be an Assistant Editor looking for their next challenge, or an Editor wanting experience on a different type of list. What\xe2\x80\x99s important to us is that you:

  • Can multitask and handle competing priorities,
  • Have proven editorial skills,
  • Understand the importance of excellent author care and relationships,
  • Have a good understanding of the marketplace: retailers, media, audiences and competitors,
  • Are confident in partnering with internal teams across the business to champion each book, and
  • Have proven negotiation skills.
