What sort of work?

We have an exciting opportunity for an Early Careers Specialist to join our HR team, based in either our Bristol or Exeter offices.


In this role, you will support the firm in the development and delivery of a high-quality Early Careers Recruitment and Development programme.


Key focus areas for this role will include:


Being the key HR interface for all Trainees, Graduate Solicitor Apprentices and Paralegal & School Leaver Solicitor Apprentices staff across the Firm Supporting the Early Careers Manager in providing support, guidance and advice to stakeholders across the firm Ensuring execution and delivery of all HR processes, with a particular emphasis on Recruitment, Induction and Onboarding, Early Careers Development, Training, Communications, Absence Management, Performance Management, Reward & Retention. Advising, interpreting and providing guidance to partners and staff in respect of HR policies and procedures, employment legislation and best practice specific to the needs of the business. Applying strong commercial focus and business acumen when providing HR solutions for the business. Providing day to day HR support when required, across a range of areas in order to cover absence or provide additional support to other team members, including graduate recruitment and HR processes. Preparing of offer letters and contracts of employment for early careers candidates. Co-ordination of the on-boarding process for all early careers' programmes. Working alongside the relevant HRBP to help organise and implement our Early Careers programmes, including ownership of the on-boarding process, the early careers performance review process, and co-ordination of seat rotations. Supporting the Early Careers Manager with Graduate and School Leaver Apprentice recruitment. This will include assisting with attending law fairs, open days, university events and our summer vacation scheme and assessment days. Assisting the Early Careers Co-ordinator with the co-ordination of School Open Days and legal work experience programmes. Supporting the HR team on strategic and operational HR projects as required.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for somebody who will understand our values and thrive in our culture. This is a hybrid working role, but will be based from either our Exeter or Bristol office, with regular travel between our other offices as required.


The successful candidate will be CIPD qualified (or equivalent) with at least 3 years' experience of working in an HR advisory capacity. Strong IT skills are also required (specifically Word, Excel & Outlook).


In addition to this, the ideal candidate will have:


Strong interpersonal skills and be an effective communicator at all levels (written and verbal). Excellent organisational skills and be able to demonstrate examples of multi-tasking and an ability to juggle competing priorities. A commercial and professional approach to work. The ability to interact well with others in a sensitive and effective way and be a team player. Evidence of being self-motivated, committed to working towards goals with strong enthusiasm and career commitment. A pro-active approach. The ability to read situations and understand the importance of confidentiality and the use of discretion. The ability to cope well under pressure, must be flexible and successful in adapting to changing demands and conditions.
