The Recreation Centre operates Between 7am and 10pm 7 days a week.
Main duties and
responsibilities
1. School and Community Use
To ensure the facilities are set up and available for school, lettings and
community bookings. To promote and encourage the use of facilities and services ensuring the
highest standards of customer relations are maintained. Monitoring and record use of facilities and capacity

2. Swimming Pool
o Ensuring daily management and integrity of the swimming pool and fitness
facilities at the school are maintained.
Ensure that all relevant pool readings and tests are carried out and
results recorded in line with Bedford School's PSOP. Responsible for
ensuring all daily, weekly and monthly maintenance checks have been
carried out.
Overseeing daily cleaning is carried out including the plant room are
maintained to the highest standards Ensure that the Recreation Centre and Gordon Field (including the pool, gym,
sports hall, changing areas, toilets and other areas) are maintained to a high
standard day-to-day. This will necessarily include ad hoc cleaning (though note
that the main daily cleaning will be done by others) and the appropriate setting
up, management and storage of pool and sports equipment.
To act as a main key holder, ensuring the facilities are opened, closed and
secured as determined by the operational programme, and in an emergency
supervise the clearing of all buildings according to procedures.
To lead and manage the Recreation Centre staff in such a way as to ensure
that the facilities are always ready and available for use during and outside of the
normal school day, and for such other school events that will from time to
time be organised.
3. Health and Safety (reporting to the DoO)
Working with Director of Operations, alongside the maintenance and
estates teams, to uphold the health and safety standards required and
where possible working towards best practice.
Ensure that appropriate and detailed records are maintained to demonstrate
full compliance with all relevant and recommended good practice for sports
centres and pools. and in particular with the guidance issued by the Health and
Safety Executive.
Review, develop and maintain the Pool Safety Operating Procedures for the
swimming pool facility, ensure they are adhered to and are reviewed regularly
to make sure they are up to date with current regulations;
Create, develop and review risk assessments, identify & control hazards;
Complete pool records (as per HSG179) (managing H&S in swimming pools);
To ensure the highest level of health and safety practice in the facility, including
training, cleaning, water testing and maintenance duties are carried out. To be responsible for the monitoring of stocks and ordering replacement
chemicals and supplies at both sites. Manage the pool plant to ensure appropriate dosing of the pool to maintain
water quality and have a thorough understanding of COSHH regulations; Ensure routine maintenance, checks and inspections of plant and machinery
and equipment within the swimming pool facility are carried out (by others,
where appropriate). Working closely with the Maintenance team to achieve
this.
Monitoring who is on site, managing signing in for various sites, keeping
records of who has attended and tracking issuing of entry codes and keys.
Checking facilities are fit for purpose before and after hire, reporting damage
and advising of issue.
4. Management, Training and Development
Line manage Recreation Centre staff including appraisals and performance
management. Undertake staff rotas ensuring compliance with staffing numbers and ratios
Monitor lifeguard qualification expiry dates for all Lifeguards using the pool
Finance
To work with the Head of Commercial in meeting both financial and
performance targets.
To work with the Head of Commercial t o actively seek bookings and
lettings with the income and expenditure budgets and lettings.
To liaise with the Finance team to invoice outside letting groups in a timely
manner, keeping appropriate records.
5. Other General Duties
To be on call when needed for emergencies and to be the point of contact to
support the duty Recreation Centre staff. Management of and willingness to challenge external hirers, pupils and
staff if process or potential breaches of process/policy are identified. Carry out gym inductions as required.
To attend to injuries and incidents, including liaising with the Operations
Director and emergency services and the completion of relevant reports. To attend meetings both internally and external relevant to your work
programme.
To attend training courses and follow Continuous Professional
Development training as required in order to fulfil the role.
To be able to cover shifts in any required capacity as and when required.
To carry out duties commensurate with the role.
You may also be required to undertake such other comparable duties as the Trust requires from time to time.
