WHAT TO EXPECT

As a Domain Software Architect, you will be part of the On-Board Architecture Chapter. You\'ll be responsible for the coordination of architecture, interfaces and requirements activities and the resolution of technical delivery issues in your domain.

Day to day, you\'ll be supporting the software development & solutions architecture for a group of products inside your domain. You\'ll be leading/mentoring other architects within your domain, guiding them to finalise the challenging technical decisions that impact the entire domain, ensuring interfaces are well defined and dependencies between the squads are clear. You\'ll be active in the management and mitigation of technical risks, ensuring that the requirements can be realistically delivered by the underlying technology components.

As part of your role, you will be building, coaching and mentoring a team of architects inside your domain, facilitating knowledge sharing and identifying career growth opportunities.

You\'ll have the opportunity to be involved in the development of the future of automotive and will be influential in the development of the Software platform and features for Jaguar Land Rover vehicles across the range.

THE ROLE

Key Responsibilities - Software Architecture

Day to day, you\'ll be supporting the software development across multiple ECU\'s and Domain controllers, focussing on the SW- platform.

Key accountabilities are:

  • Solution design across products
  • Feasibility studies
  • Architecture
  • High Level Designs
  • Review and sign-off of Low-level designs
  • Recruitment and Mentoring (helping to build the team)
Key Responsibilities - Software Product Area
  • Product ownership at Domain level for a Software Product area covering Base Software, Diagnostics, Security and Shared Services delivering to Architectural North Star principles.
  • Develop a business aligned vision/strategy for functional delivery of SW enablers and services.
  • Responsible for the delivery of any functional and non-functional Software requirements across all programmes to develop and deploy the next generation enabling Software.
  • FuSA and SOTIF compliant SW architecture, achieving certification and data integrity where applicable.
  • Establish training and future skills development: mentoring employees through their personal developments and technical capabilities training.
  • Support task forces activities to solve complex engineering / application problems.
Key Performance Indicators - Software Architecture
  • Define the technical definition of done and technical KPI\'s for Domain capabilities. Ensure technical requirements derived from these are correct and complete.
  • Interaction with key technical stakeholders outside the Domain as point of contact for technical discussions to align and maintain the architectural runway in line with Northstar principles.
  • Align and resolve Domain level discussions through a domain level design authority, escalate as needed to Portfolio Design Authority where needed.
  • Design Robustness (agreed recovery from failures in FMA or equivalent, degradation mode)
  • Scalability and extensibility (Applicability of design scales up to multiple systems: based on review)
  • Project Deliverables timing over QBR
Key Performance Indicators - Software Product Area
  • Continuous development of a global team, where diversity & inclusion are important. Enabling & supporting the team to be motivated and engaged to achieve an efficient delivery of quality product, on time.
  • Translating the business and technical strategy into executable new products or services, agreeing and approving the Product map with the business stake holders using the Agile QBR principles
  • Functional Safety: deliver state of the art compliant products including ISO26262 and SOTIF.
  • Software- Safety-Architecture as Sign-Off artefact.
  • Software Requirements Engineering process inc. effective usage of tools to allow defect/ issue triaging based on 100% traceability for Validation & Verification.
  • Regulations and legal compliance ensuring certification / homologation.
WHAT YOU\'LL NEED

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Ability to lead product / technical development supporting Chapters through applying technical and process expertise.
  • Switching from daily tasks to weekly or two weekly sprints ensuring high quality outputs.
  • Ability to lead Quarterly Business Review (QBR) cross-domain.
  • Ability to triage extremely complex system behaviour issues (Onboard / Offboard interactions, power management / startup, networking etc.). Effective Usage and application of 8D / fishbone and problem-solving techniques to present resolution up to JLR board level.
  • Individual has extensive experience leading software, hardware (ECU and switches/sensors) engineering organisations delivering commodities and customer solutions, including:
  • Deep technical knowledge, coupled with strong leadership and delivery experience
  • Proven ability to manage diverse stakeholders with conflicting needs
  • Industry experience gained in digital practices and/or automotive/connected car industry.
  • Experience in managing supplier delivery teams.
  • Proven successful experience in a leadership role with the ability to work well with peers and diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent understanding & awareness of tech trends and how to exploit these in the real world.
  • Capability to work effectively at both operational and strategic level, and able to switch quickly.
  • Analytical skills including the ability to conduct complex research into new technologies and manufacturing systems and tools.
  • Ability to effectively explain complex ideas, confidently presenting these to senior stakeholders.
  • UML Software Design.
  • Proven experience in people management.
  • Ability to communicate technical design concepts to business and technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to provide realistic and executable project-related technical estimations.
  • Relevant degree or equivalent experience.
  • Good experience of software development.
  • Ability to analyse and resolve complex hardware and software interrelated issues.
Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Experience in working on embedded system platforms.
  • Cloud architecture knowledge.
  • Working knowledge of C, C++, Python.
