DoLS Best Interest Assessor (Social Worker) Job description

Four Full-Time, Permanent Positions

The Bristol City Council Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) team is recruiting qualified Best Interest Assessors (BIAs). The team consists of a core team of BIAs who carry out the majority of the DoLS assessments for Bristol City Council.

You will have a sound knowledge of the principles and application of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards; and will demonstrate strong professional values when assessing and putting in place safeguards to promote service users\xe2\x80\x99 Human Rights. Experience of effective multi-professional working with internal and external stakeholders is required.

You must have good assessment skills, which includes the ability to interact professionally with interested parties to collate and analyse information to reach and record defensible decisions. You will receive reflective supervision and guidance from the qualified Senior Practitioners / Team Manager based within the team.

With the Liberty Protection Safeguards (LPS) replacing DoLS in the near future, the framework for authorising arrangements amounting to a deprivation of liberty will change. To implement this a change process will need to be undertaken in the team. Support will be available to you during the change process and where appropriate, colleagues will also be supported to access conversion training to become an LPS Approved Mental Capacity Professional.
