A Divisional Teaching Laboratories Manager is now required to lead a team of technicians in a busy preparation area for practical classes in undergraduate pharmacy and master\'s degree programmes during term time. Additionally, to provide proactive technical advice and support to the wider division when required.

About the role

To manage the divisional teaching laboratories, associated storage and preparation areas.

  • To line manage a small team of technicians and to co-ordinate the wider technical team associated with providing laboratory classes to the taught programmes in the division.
  • To provide direct technical support in the subjects of Microbiology and Making Medicines for MPharm and PG Diploma courses.
  • To be responsible for the safety of workers and visitors to the teaching laboratory areas. Safety aspects relevant to this complex working environment will be at the forefront of all tasks.
  • To have budget responsibility for the laboratories and for MPharm practical provision.
  • To manage the School\'s biological waste service, associated machinery and operators.
  • Qualified to degree level in a Life Sciences subject, with a demonstrable interest in science, showing evidence of a commitment to personal development and continuing professional development.
Being a Registered Scientist with the Science Council or willing to work towards membership.

This role meets the eligibility requirements for a skilled worker certificate of sponsorship or a global talent visa under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. Therefore, UCL welcomes applications from international applicants who require a visa.

We will consider applications to work on a part-time, flexible and job share basis wherever possible.

This role is eligible for hybrid working with a minimum of 80% on site.

About you

Laboratory Technicians play a key role in service provision to laboratories and in support of undergraduate and postgraduate courses. A professional, reliable, flexible and initiative-driven approach will be required, with teamwork and safety awareness always of critical importance. Some extended working days are expected during term-time, with time off in lieu to be taken during the next student vacation period.
