We are looking for a Director of Engineering to lead the Digital Customer Engineering team, ensure the execution of software development and build a strong and vibrant culture of engineering excellence.

You will bring a passion for growing and developing a team of highly engaged and purpose driven product engineers, who love to deliver innovative and inspiring digital experiences for our scientific customers.

Being an experienced product engineer with solid technical expertise and familiarity with relevant technologies and techniques, the Director of Engineering provides overall strategic guidance and direction for software development activities.

Seeking excellence in all engineering disciplines (career and organizational development functionality development, quality engineering, data driven), the Director of Engineering leads the engineering team in the delivery of functionality and helps the team in defining and achieving their departmental and squad objectives and key results.

Key Responsibilities

• Inspire and motivate our software engineers to continuously improve and grow their careers at Abcam.
• Support, advise and ensure the execution of software development while implementing product engineering best practices.
• Be a key driver of Abcam\xe2\x80\x99s product engineering culture and create the framework and goals required
• Stay up to date with cutting-edge technologies and techniques, and help implement those at Abcam, with the ultimate goal of producing functionality on time with market leading customer experiences.
• Collaborate with peers to define and drive the technical vision of Abcam.
• Perform Risk Management around software delivery timelines, partner management, resource allocation, and budget.
• Collaborate with the Product team, and Engineering Leads to define squad-specific OKRs and support the achievement of those in engineering.\xc2\xad
• Support individual Engineers in their career development by conducting regular one-on-ones and implementing techniques such as SMART goal settings, goal reviews, PDPs, and more.
• Ensure the effective allocation of engineering resources within the team and engage recruitment business partners for recruitment activities.
• Support the implementation of Agile best practices in the software development lifecycle, utilizing the tools, resources, and expertise available in Digital.
• Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s or First degree in Computer Science or quantitative field
• Significant experience in leadership of scaling and building high performing product engineering teams.
• Delivered unique or disruptive digital customer experiences using the latest technology
• Experience of delivering market leading products using Micro frontend, Serverless, React and Node cloud native platforms
