Job Description

About Mission Zero Technologies

We're a London-based climate-tech start-up, working to reframe how the world views carbon in order to enable a thriving planet. Since 2020, we have pioneered the world's most versatile direct air capture (DAC) technology to recover historic CO? emissions from the atmosphere, anywhere, at any scale.

Backed by Breakthrough Energy Ventures, the XPRIZE foundation, Stripe, and the UK Government, we've moved a brand new climate technology from lab scale to commercial plants in under three years, to empower carbon removal and sustainable utilisation.

We're now looking for an exceptional Engineer with experience working across disciplines to help us drive the next phase of innovation.

About the role

You have the opportunity to join MZT at a crucial juncture in our company's evolution - transitioning from an innovative R&D startup into a global player ready to implement and scale our DAC technology. As a development engineer, you will be instrumental in guiding the ideation, design, development and implementation of key test and validation equipment across our DAC solutions.

Reporting across R&D and engineering-delivery, this is a key role where you will work hands-on with scientists, engineers, operators, and the wider product team. This role requires knowledge of a broad range of technical skills backed with particular experience developing and deploying systems in test and development environments. This role requires hands-on experience and an aptitude for working with new and novel systems.

This role will be based primarily in our London headquarters, with periodic assignments to our various emerging UK sites, local and global suppliers, and further international sites as we expand globally.

What you'll be doing

Operate and support the management of multiple test rigs as our test and development site grows. Identify problems, troubleshoot fixes and implement upgrades from design through to physical install on-rig. Build equipment and sensor registers, manage calibrations of transducers and devices, and create tools to help facilitate round-the-clock operations. Manage engineering and technical stores, working closely with the lab and facilities teams to coordinate and manage site operations and sequencing of tests. Support systems design (mechanical, electrical, control) of a variety of test stand types ranging from proof-of-concept demonstrators through to automated larger scale process validation platforms. Translate learnings taken at lab & demonstration scale through to designs that can be implemented at full product scale.

What you'll need to be successful in this role

Adaptability and willingness to work in a dynamic environment, with experience working with ambiguity Bachelor's/HND in engineering (mechatronic, mechanical, electrical, or equivalent) Experience working in a general engineering capacity - cross-functional, hands on skills are a must-have. Apprenticeships and/or other backgrounds are also considered and encouraged. Experience of device (or system) characterisation, manufacture and testing, and familiarity with troubleshooting and interrogating test systems or results. Experience contributing to technical projects in development / R&D environments Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to proactively implement practical solutions Good communication skills, with the ability to understand requirements and problems from the team, and find solutions Team-oriented mindset with experience working across different technical disciplines

Ideally you'll also have

Exposure to the carbon capture or clean energy sector, demonstrating familiarity with industry challenges and opportunities. Hands-on experience and a proven track record of delivering test beds or rig-based systems. Experience working externally with equipment suppliers and research partners Ability to interpret P&IDs. Familiarity with CAD software (SOLIDWORKS) for mechanical design. Understanding of electrical controls and instrumentation hardware & a grounding in the fundamentals of process chemistry, fluids handling and hydraulics.
