About the Role
As Despatch Manager at Clayton Glass, you'll play a vital, hands-on role in ensuring our products are manufactured on time, prepared accurately, and ready for despatch. You'll be based primarily on the shop floor, overseeing all logistics activity up to the point goods leave our site.
This role is central to maintaining the smooth flow of production and ensuring products meet the highest quality and safety standards before they're handed over to the Transport Manager and driving team for onward delivery. You'll lead and coordinate the despatch and warehouse teams, working closely with production and transport colleagues to ensure everything runs efficiently, safely, and to the standard our customers expect.
Key Responsibilities
Production Coordination: Liaise closely with production teams to ensure goods are manufactured to schedule and prepared for timely despatch.
Despatch Planning: Manage the accurate labelling, staging, and readiness of products for collection, ensuring alignment with delivery schedules.
Operational Oversight: Monitor day-to-day logistics activity on the shop floor, ensuring smooth transitions between departments and timely handovers to transport.
Team Leadership: Lead and support despatch and warehouse colleagues, setting clear expectations, encouraging collaboration, and driving high performance.
Standards & Compliance: Ensure all despatch activities meet health & safety requirements and uphold Clayton Glass' quality standards. Carry out regular checks, address non-conformances, and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
Process Improvement: Identify operational inefficiencies, propose and implement improvements to streamline processes and improve accuracy, speed, and service levels.
Reporting: Monitor key performance metrics and provide regular updates to senior management on despatch operations, quality adherence, and service performance.
Collaboration: Work closely with transport, warehouse, and production leads to ensure joined up working across all departments involved in the flow of goods.
Essential Criteria
Experience: A minimum of 5 years' experience in despatch or logistics operations, ideally within a manufacturing or fast-paced industrial environment.
Leadership: Proven ability to lead from the front, motivate teams, and maintain high levels of staff engagement and productivity.
Organisation: Excellent planning and coordination skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple operational activities and stay ahead of daily targets.
Attention to Detail: Strong focus on order accuracy, inventory control, and schedule adherence.
Standards Compliance: In-depth knowledge of workplace safety protocols and a proven ability to work within and uphold both health & safety and quality standards.
Problem Solving: Able to identify issues with orders, schedules, or product readiness and implement timely, effective solutions.
Technical Skills: Confident using logistics or despatch software to manage workflows and track operational performance.
Driving Licence: Full UK driving licence required.
FLT Licence: A valid forklift truck (FLT) certificate is essential.

Monday to Friday: 05:00 AM - 14:00 PM
