Are you an original designer looking to develop beautiful children\'s books? We have an exciting opportunity for you to join Design Eye, one of Quarto\'s leading co-edition publishers of illustrated children\'s books, often including innovative novelty elements.

Contract Permanent

Working hours

35 hours per week, Monday to Friday. We currently operate a discretionary hybrid model, with three days in our London office and two working from home.

About the role

The role will involve being an active part of our design team as we develop brilliant new books, both novelty (pop ups, flaps and mechanisms) and straight books.

What you will be involved in

  • Working on a list of titles from concept to publication
  • Creating strong and fresh designs, layouts, and typography
  • Supporting other departments in reprints
  • Admin tasks, including creating contracts, processing invoices, and negotiating fees
  • Developing and testing models alongside paper engineers
  • Project managing freelance designers and packagers
Who you are

You\'ll be a designer with a passion for children\'s publishing. With strong layout skills and an eye for good illustration, you\'ll be great at communicating within a team.

You will be able to show you:
  • Have minimum 18 months\' children\'s book design experience
  • Have an awareness of design and illustration trends across the market and an eye for strong design
  • Can quickly scamp ideas and provide detailed layouts and briefs
  • Can work on several projects at once
  • Have effective communication, interpersonal skills to liaise and work collaboratively
  • Have excellent design, typography and layout skills
  • Are highly proficient in InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Are proactive, independent and able to work to own deadlines and keep to schedules
  • Novelty experience is preferred
