JOB

PURPOSE:



To provide inclusive play and learning opportunities for all children attending the nursery and to maintain a safe, stimulating and enjoyable environment. She/he will be responsible for curriculum planning within the nursery. S/he will manage the provision, including staffing levels in the absence of the Nursery Manager.

MAIN DUTIES:



To manage the nursery and undertake all the necessary duties in the absence of the Nursery Manager To oversee the planning, delivery and monitoring of the nursery's EYFS curriculum in accordance with the children's social, emotional, physical and intellectual needs. To supervise relevant staff on a daily basis. To supervise volunteers, students on placements and work experience in the nursery. To supervise the children where appropriate and to protect them from dangerous or harmful situations. To share any child protection concerns immediately with the Nursery Manager To provide a high level of care that will enhance the children's general health and well-being. To be the lead person for behaviour management in the nursery. To act as a key person to a small group of children if needed and to ensure their needs are reflected in the planning of routines and activities. To be aware of children's special educational needs and ensure staff support these children effectively. To keep informative, accurate and up-to-date records, including records of progress and any behavioural or developmental reports. To liaise regularly with parents/carers about their children's needs, interests and progress. To arrange and attend parents'/carers' meetings to allow two-way discussion of their children's progress. To liaise with the Nursery Cook on menu planning ensuring the children receive a healthy, multi-cultural diet. To contribute to and attend his/her supervisions and staff appraisal. To attend regular team meetings. To liaise and work in partnership with other agencies, both statutory and voluntary, where appropriate. To attend any conferences, training events or meetings and to keep up to date with current good practice. To adhere to the nursery's policies and code of practice on confidentiality. To adhere to and undertake the six criteria of Key Elements of Reflective Practice. To perform any other duties as deemed necessary.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential Criteria:



A minimum Level 3 early years education and childcare qualification NVQ 3, or equivalent) and a commitment to obtaining further qualifications as appropriate. Post-qualification experience in running or helping to run a similar service. A sound understanding of child development and children's needs with an ability to plan and implement an early years age/stage appropriate curriculum, taking into account the SEN Code of Practice, child protection procedures and equal opportunities' considerations. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing. This includes the ability to establish rapport and credibility with parents and the ability to produce clear, concise and well-written reports, e.g. for disciplinarians, business plans for recruitment purposes etc. Ability to use Microsoft Office packages effectively and to produce reports and correspondence in a professional and accurate format. Ability to prioritise own work and plan in advance for meetings etc. Ability to build good partnership working relationships with staff. Ability to communicate the need for quality and continuous improvement, and influences good practice through own example. Ability to inspire people to deliver results, high standards and sets clear objectives for self and the team, taking appropriate and timely action to ensure targets are achieved. Ability to support the development of his/her team through regular discussion and team meetings which encourage two way communication and sharing of ideas and expectations. Ability to communicate in a variety of ways and with people at all levels, and adopts a communication method appropriate for the listener or audience. Experience of effective staff management and objective setting, performance management (one-ones, appraisals, feedback). Experience of co-ordinating curriculum planning for a childcare and early education setting. Pro-active, enthusiastic and self motivated. Ability to remain calm under pressure. Emotionally resilient and able to handle competing demands. Able to work on own initiative. Demonstrates professionalism in approach to managing all issues. The ability to establish rapport and credibility with parents. Experience of Problem solving. Good customer awareness. The ability to establish rapport and credibility with parents. An ability to engage with parents/carers in respect of their own needs for advice, education and personal development. Demonstrable and detailed knowledge of current legislation relevant to the Early Years. A commitment to the Nursery's programme. Will be part of the teaching staff ratio. Knowledge and use of Tapestry software desirable.
Salary negotiable depending on experience.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: 29,000.00-34,000.00 per year
