With unrivalled expertise in languages and area studies, study abroad and the international student experience are important elements of our education profile.About the roleA key senior role in the Faculty-level Professional Services (PS) Team, the Deputy Director of Operations will work alongside the Director of Operations. They will support strategic decision-making in their area of remit and will have specific responsibility for ensuring the delivery of an effective operational service across both the Faculty Office itself and all 10 of our departments in areas of remit including, but not restricted to, Business Continuity, Strategic Planning, Budgeting, Estates Planning, HR and Finance. Via their leadership and effective line management of Faculty-level teams, they will drive consistent ways of working for all areas of operations in their remit; ensuring the service required in each area is resourced and up to date re Best Practice etc as well as contributing to a conducive and positive organisational culture. A key element of the role will be leading on the change necessary to align our Faculty operations to current and future Change Programmes such as Service simplification. In addition, the post holder will provide operational leadership and financial management for the Faculty Office itself. They will be expected to deputise for the Director of Operations as required in their area of remit.About youWe are looking for someone who is self-driven with a positive and can-do attitude, who can use their knowledge, experience and analysis of supporting data to deliver and develop our Faculty-level PS provision through leading on effective strategic, operational and change management. They will need to be able to act autonomously on given projects, with excellent attention to detail and an understanding of how to work with overlapping priorities. They must be able to lead teams, whom they may not directly line manage themselves, to deliver objectives. They will work with key stakeholders in A&H - including staff in academic departments and functional area Business Partners - as well as representing A&H to other groups across UCL, so will need to be an excellent communicator with the ability to influence others and act as the Faculty voice in senior level cross-UCL meetings. The work will be diverse and will require someone who can be flexible and enjoys being reactive, when necessary, whilst still ensuring clear outcomes through effective planning and prioritisation. They must also be aware of challenges relating to EDI and committed to tackling these and promoting a positive and inclusive culture.
