As a Decontamination Assistant with our Dental Practice, you will play a critical role in ensuring the proper decontamination and sterilization of dental instruments and equipment. Your primary responsibilities will include:
1. Instrument Decontamination and Sterilization:
- Follow established protocols for cleaning, decontaminating, and sterilizing dental instruments and equipment.
- Operate and maintain decontamination equipment, such as autoclaves and ultrasonic cleaners.
- Monitor and document sterilization cycles to ensure effectiveness and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Organize and maintain instrument inventory to ensure availability for dental procedures.
2. Infection Control and Compliance:
- Adhere to strict infection control protocols and guidelines, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Maintain a clean and hygienic decontamination area, including regular cleaning and disinfection.
- Monitor and document daily, weekly, and monthly infection control procedures.
- Stay updated with infection control best practices and regulatory requirements.
3. Training and Education:
- Provide training and education to dental staff on proper decontamination techniques and infection control protocols.
- Promote a culture of safety and infection control awareness within the practice.
- Stay informed about advancements in decontamination and infection control practices.
4. Quality Assurance:
- Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure compliance with decontamination and infection control standards.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance decontamination processes.
5. Team Collaboration and Support:
- Collaborate with dental professionals and support staff to ensure a smooth workflow and efficient instrument management.
- Assist in other clinical areas of the dental practice as needed.
Qualifications and Skills:
To succeed in this role, we are seeking candidates with the following qualifications and skills:
- Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) qualification.
- Previous experience in a similar role, preferably in a dental or healthcare setting.
- In-depth knowledge of infection control principles, decontamination procedures, and sterilization techniques.
- Understanding of regulatory guidelines and standards related to instrument sterilization.
- Strong attention to detail and adherence to protocols.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Familiarity with dental instruments and equipment is a plus.
