Job Description


An exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, ambitious and forward thinking GDC registered individual to join the North Wales Dental Service has arisen in North Wales to appoint to two salaried fixed term contract posts based in General Dental Practice.

Each post will comprise 4 days working in a General Dental Practice with a further day available to pursue a funded Postgraduate Certificate qualification and to gain experience within other branches of dentistry (Hospital / Community / Prison Dental Services/ Specialist Practices).

The way dental services are contracted and delivered are changing across Wales with many great initiatives in North Wales that make this an exciting time to join our service and develop both yourself and the service.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide primary care dentistry to patients falling within the scope of the General Dental Services in Wales, including non-registered patients in need of urgent dental care.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to gain increased experience of working under the remit of the General Dental Services in Wales with the opportunity to discuss and agree a Personal Development Plan to undertake Continuing Professional Development opportunities in line to support the individual with their future career development plan.

This will consist weekly of 4 days in an allocated practice undertaking clinical work in accordance with a GDS contract and an additional day per week for personal and professional study in a mutually agreed specialism to achieve a PG Cert qualification.

Job responsibilities

To provide the full range of primary dental care for patients within agreed guidelines under the remit of General Dental Services. To provide emergency care for patients who are registered within the practice during core hours.

To ensure patient records are accurately and contemporaneously completed, both electronically and manually, following national guidelines. To undertake any other duties, as required by the practice.

To participate in regular discussion with your Clinical Supervisor in order to help identify training and development needs. To maintain a clinical log of activity undertaken, to discuss with your clinical supervisor at arranged times during the period of appointment.

Qualifications and/or Knowledge
Essential

  • Applicants must have BDS (or equivalent dental qualification)
  • Applicant must be fully registered with GDC
  • Applicant must be eligible to join an NHS Dental Performer List (Wales) (or equivalent) by time of commencement of post
  • Applicant must have evidence of current employment in a Dental Foundation programme or exemption at time of application or a Certificate of Satisfactory Completion of Dental Foundation training
  • Applicants must have completed Dental Foundation Training

  • Working knowledge of Assessment of Clinical Oral Risks and Needs (ACORN) Tool
