Job Description

The Day Centres Manager will be responsible for the daily operations of the day centres dedicated to supporting older adults, particularly those with dementia. This role focuses on providing a safe, stimulating, and supportive environment, promoting the well-being, dignity, and independence of clients. The Day Centres Manager will oversee a team of care and support staff, develop person-centred care plans, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in dementia care, team leadership, and person-centred service delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Leadership and Management



Oversee daily operations of the day centres, ensuring a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for all clients and staff. Lead, supervise, and motivate a team of care and support staff, providing guidance, performance management, and professional development opportunities. Foster a culture of compassion, dignity, and respect, ensuring that all team members adhere to best practices in dementia care.

2. Client Care and Well-being



Develop, implement, and monitor person-centred care plans tailored to the unique needs of each client, particularly those with dementia, with input from families and healthcare providers. Assess clients' physical, emotional, and cognitive needs regularly to ensure the highest quality of individualised care. Plan and coordinate engaging activities and therapies that enhance cognitive function, stimulate social interaction, and promote emotional well-being for clients with dementia.

3. Staff Training and Development



Train and support staff in dementia care best practices, including understanding behaviours, communication strategies, and de-escalation techniques. Facilitate ongoing training sessions on dementia awareness, safeguarding, and other relevant topics, ensuring staff is equipped to handle clients' diverse needs. Implement regular team meetings, debrief sessions, and performance reviews to maintain high standards of care and support staff well-being.

4. Health and Safety Compliance



Ensure the day centres meet all health, safety, and regulatory requirements, including infection control measures, fire safety, and risk management. Maintain accurate records, including incident reports, client assessments, medication administration, and safeguarding documentation. Implement risk assessments and emergency protocols tailored to the needs of dementia clients, including procedures for wandering, aggression, and other common dementia-related behaviours.

5. Communication and Relationship Management



Act as the primary point of contact for families and caregivers, providing updates on client progress, addressing concerns, and facilitating family involvement in the care process. Build positive relationships with healthcare professionals, social workers, and community organisations to ensure a holistic approach to client care. Represent the day centres within the community to promote awareness of dementia care services, participate in relevant forums, and support partnership development.

6. Administrative and Financial Management



Manage the centres budgets, ensuring efficient allocation of resources while maintaining quality care standards. Oversee scheduling to ensure adequate staff coverage and appropriate staffing ratios. Maintain all required administrative records and documentation to meet regulatory and organisational standards.

Qualifications and Skills:

Essential:



Qualifications in Health and Social Care

- Applicant must be a qualified social worker registered with social work ENGLAND and have been qualified for over 10 years.

Proven experience

in a senior care role within a dementia care setting, such as a day centre, residential care home, or community care organisation.

Strong understanding of dementia care principles

and practices, including person-centred approaches, communication techniques, and behavioural management.

Excellent leadership skills

with the ability to manage, motivate, and support a team in a care environment.

Proficiency in health and safety, risk management, and safeguarding

practices relevant to dementia care.

Strong communication skills

, both verbal and written, with an ability to build positive relationships with clients, families, staff, and external professionals.

Desirable:



Experience with budget management

and resource allocation.

Training or certifications in dementia care

(e.g., Dementia Care Mapping, NCFE Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of Dementia Care).

Knowledge of current UK legislation

and regulatory requirements in adult social care, including the Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards.

First Aid Certification

and additional training in emergency response.
