About the Team

This role sits within our data management office function. We support projects across technology, policy, research, operations, people, and ICT. We are part of the wider Corporate Group. Ofcom\xe2\x80\x99s Corporate Group is playing a central role, transforming the way in which we use in-depth technical and analytical knowledge, and awareness of the broader tech sector, to drive our regulatory and policy work.

The group\xe2\x80\x99s work spans critical sectors, from broadband and mobile networks to broadcast TV and radio services. And now we are responsible for regulating UK video sharing platforms leading the technical work as we gear up to regulate online safety and ensure people can live a safer life online. We\xe2\x80\x99re also building a deeper understanding the role that cross-cutting technologies such as artificial intelligence and deep learning play across all our sectors.

Purpose of the Role

A significant part of the Data Culture pillar of the Ofcom Data Strategy, is to enable all data professionals to effectively develop their careers. This is an exciting opportunity work with our cross-Ofcom data teams to define and implement the strategy for this career development. The role would include helping to define career pathways, skill sets and capabilities as well as source, create and curate the appropriate training courses. Working in collaboration with Personal and Transformation teams and the Chief Data Officer, Directors and Principals working in data fields across Ofcom.

Key Responsibilities

Support delivery of the Data Profession Career Pathways and training aspects of the Data Culture Pillar of the Ofcom Data Strategy and the wider Data Programme of Work, and work with the Data Delivery partners to assist in the creation of communication plan to disseminate the plans through senior leaders and across Ofcom.

Engage directly and confidently with stakeholders across Ofcom to develop the Data Profession Career pathways, including defining the associated skill for each aspect and level of the pathway.

Curate a specialist set of courses for each of the defined skills and levels.

Manage the rollout and monitor engagement for the career pathways and associated training.

Progress reporting for audiences at all levels, using a range of multi-media communications tools.

Contribute to the effectiveness and efficiency of the Chief Data Office by working flexibly across portfolios when needed.

Work with colleagues in the Data Teams to ensure a joined-up approach.

Contribute to the long-term improvement plan for the data profession.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

Essential:

Experience of developing or managing training programmes and or career development programmes in the technology and data space.

the ability to develop highly effective working relationships with a wide range of senior contacts across Ofcom - including Group Directors and their teams;

the ability to engage stakeholders and reach consensus.

strong interpersonal and communication skills \xe2\x80\x93 both oral and written;

the ability to get to the heart of complex issues quickly;

to be highly organised, able to respond quickly to change and to work in a flexible and agile way to meet the needs of the Chief Data Officer and the team;

to be a team player, supporting other members of the team with their tasks, as needed;

Desirable:

Experience of working with HR/ People teams on HR transformation projects

a broad knowledge of Ofcom\xe2\x80\x99s business and the wider stakeholder and policy environment in which we operate.
