Overall Purpose of The Job

This role will sit within our newly forming Finance Data & Analytics function, with the long-term ambition of building a self-sufficient team capable of owning and delivering end-to-end finance data solutions. In the short term, the Data Architect will work within the existing architecture, processes, and constraints - including limited access to core environments and reliance on the central IT team for implementation. A key part of this role will be to influence and guide data development through collaboration and well-defined specifications, working within a governance framework designed to evolve over time. This role will initially involve working within limited access environments: (1) Write access is currently restricted to sandbox environments. (2) Implementation of pipelines and data flows must be done by the central IT data team. (3) The Data Architect will not initially own production deployment but will be responsible for defining, validating, and reviewing what is implemented. Over time, as the Finance Data & Analytics team grows and governance structures mature, we expect the Data Architect to assume greater ownership of the end-to-end data model and reporting lifecycle within the Finance domain.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks

Partner with Finance and other business stakeholders to gather requirements and define high-quality, scalable data models and reporting solutions. Develop Power BI data models, DAX calculations, and reports to support business performance monitoring and decision-making. Translate business logic into structured, reusable SQL views and functions (within sandbox environments), and define clear specifications for the central IT team to implement. Collaborate with data engineers to shape pipeline logic and ensure robust, business-aligned implementation -- even when implementation is handled externally. Perform root cause analysis and validation for data quality issues, working with the business and IT to resolve inconsistencies at the source wherever possible. Champion best practices in modelling, documentation, and governance across the Finance reporting stack. Contribute to the definition and rollout of a Finance-specific data architecture, aligned to V.'s wider enterprise data strategy. Act as a key contributor to a future-state data ecosystem where ownership of domain-specific logic and models sits closer to the business. Provide support for ad-hoc analysis and reporting needs from Finance leadership. Help build capability across the Finance team by coaching power users and contributing to knowledge sharing and process documentation.

What can I expect in return?

V. Group can offer you a market leading salary and benefits package, in addition to significant opportunities for career growth and personal development. This a great opportunity to join a true leader in the maritime sector - a company that has exciting plans for future growth.

A passion for continuous improvement, documentation, and building data capability in others.

Desirable

Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, Data Science, Information Systems, Finance, or a related field Experience with the Azure data stack (e.g., ADF, ADLS, Synapse, Databricks) preferred.
