Leidos is seeking a mid-level, security engineer with in-depth technical knowledge of Cybersecurity principles. Confers with and advises subordinates on administrative policies and procedures and resolving technical problems, priorities, and methods. Consults with and advises other areas regarding internal controls and security procedures. Prepares activity and progress reports relating to the information systems audit function. Supports vulnerability assessment and design of intrusion detection tools for complex network architecture.
This position requires the ability to work independently, with direction and as a team member under the direction of the lead task manager. The Cybersecurity Engineer is a crucial member of our cybersecurity team, responsible for implementing, monitoring, and maintaining security measures that protect the organisation\'s computer networks and systems. This role demands an individual who is both technically proficient and has a keen understanding of the constantly evolving threat landscape.
Primary Responsibilities:
Works independently to achieve day-to-day IT security objectives with moderate impact on operational results or project deliverables.
Responsible for entire projects or processes within IT security areas.
Typically responsible for coaching and reviewing the work of lower level IT security staff.
Develops technical security solutions that require collaboration with internal experts, advanced analyses and understanding of impact on end-product/solution.
Develops solutions to technical security problems and issues that may be unclear but require technical security compliance knowledge.
Communicates with internal and client project team members.
Requires understanding of and ability to apply principles, theories, and concepts of technical security domains and has advanced understanding of other related IT security areas.

System Protection and Monitoring:
Design, configure, and maintain security tools and platforms to defend against unauthorised access, breaches, and malware.
Monitor security logs, alerts, and dashboards to identify signs of abnormal activity or potential breaches.
Conduct vulnerability assessments and penetration tests to identify and rectify potential weaknesses.
Incident Response:
Participate in the organisation\'s incident response plan, helping to detect, investigate, and remediate security incidents.
Coordinate with other IT teams and external partners during incident investigations.
Document incidents, root causes, and post-incident actions for improvement.
Policy and Compliance:
Assist in the development, maintenance, and enforcement of the organisation\'s information security policies and procedures.
Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations (e.g., ISO 27001, NIST, GDPR, HIPAA).
Work with internal and external auditors to validate the effectiveness of security measures.
Training and Awareness:
Assist in developing and delivering security awareness training for employees.
Keep up-to-date with the latest security trends, vulnerabilities, and threat intelligence to ensure the organisation remains resilient against new threats.
Collaboration and Communication:
Work collaboratively with various teams (e.g. delivery, engineering, test) to integrate security into all aspects of business operations.
Communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally, on security-related topics to a range of audiences, from technical to non-technical stakeholders.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor\'s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
3-4 years of relevant experience in cybersecurity or related roles.
Proficiency in using security tools such as firewalls, intrusion detection systems, anti-virus software, and SIEM.
Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks (e.g., NIST, CIS, OWASP).
Hands-on experience with network protocols, design, and operations.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in computer science, Engineering or related field with 2 years of experience working in cloud infrastructure security operations
Ability to obtain a Ho SC clearance
Proven experience developing, operating and maintaining security systems
Extensive knowledge of operating system and database security
Proficiency in networking technologies, network security and network monitoring solutions
Knowledge of security systems including anti-virus applications, content filtering, firewalls, authentication systems and intrusion detection and notification systems
In-depth knowledge of security protocols and principles
Critical thinking skills and ability to solve complex problems

Clearance: Candidate must a UK National and be eligible to obtain SC clearance.
