Hear what it is like being an Accessible Apprentice within the Local Linked Support Team

The Role:

As an Accessible Apprentice, you will be supported by a work mentor who will be on-hand to advise and guide you in your new role.

You will be providing administration support as part of an Accessible Apprenticeship to the Local Linked Support Team.

The team works with adults who have autism and/or a learning disability, providing advice, guidance and support to access services, groups and opportunities in the community. You will be part of a team that works to support adults who have autism and/or a learning disability to ensure they can lead meaningful lives.

This role presents an opportunity to learn more about working in a team environment, developing a good understanding of existing systems and processes, while providing support to the wider team.

About You:
  • You will have an interest in customer service or administration. (Previous work or volunteer experience working within the role or environment would be beneficial, but not essential as full training and support will be provided)
  • You will have a \'can do\' attitude
  • You will have some experience and knowledge of working with IT systems including Microsoft Office and have a willingness to learn new systems
  • As you will be working as part of a team in a supportive role, you will need to have excellent communication skills and the ability to build and establish relationships
  • Having a good phone manner and a friendly approach would be ideal as well as being well organised and reliable
  • You will have a passion for wanting to help people
As this is an Accessible Apprenticeship opportunity, you will have a current or historic Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP) or Special Educational Need (SEN) or a learning difficulty or a disability to qualify for this Apprenticeship.

Essential Requirements for the role:
  • Lived experience of having a learning difficulty, a disability, autism or additional needs
  • Functional Skills Level 1 in Maths and English (or equivalent), which is a Grade D/E or 2/3 to begin the apprenticeship
  • Ability to reach a Level 2 Functional Skills in both Maths & English by the End Point Assessment (EPA), if you do not already have this
  • Have the right to work and study in England
  • Have been ordinarily resident in the UK or EEA for three years before the apprenticeship start date
What will you be doing?

You will assist with the delivery of routine administrative tasks, dealing with day-to-day work including (but not limited to):
  • Researching groups and services in the local community
  • Working with community groups to be able to signpost people to services
  • Providing advice at library drop in sessions
  • Supporting adults to access groups, services and appointments
  • Recording interactions with adults
  • Identifying new ways of working with your colleagues
This position provides the work-based experience which supports you to undertake and complete the Customer Service Level 2 Apprenticeship.
