37.5 hours per week, 7 am - 3 pm Monday to Friday during school term time only

Cotham School, a successful, vibrant and diverse 11-18 comprehensive school, wishes to appoint an experienced Cover and Supply Manager on a permanent basis.

The successful applicant will be responsible for organising internal and external staff to cover teaching staff absences, to ensure a high standard of cover lesson.

You will be required to have excellent organisational skills and the ability to work calmly under pressure. You will be responsible for leading the cover supervisor team within the school, including the coordination and organisation of advanced and emergency cover, liaising directly with cover supervisors and other staff, supply staff and agencies to provide exceptional cover lessons.

You may also be required to cover occasional lessons and provide learning activities for classes, if applicants have a teaching or training background. For this you will ideally have classroom management skills and qualities to deliver cover lessons to support and motivate students whilst maintaining a disciplined and purposeful environment. You will have exceptional experience of working with young people aged 11 to 16 in a learning environment.

The role will also include managing staff absences and recording and reporting effectively.

Responsible for:



Managing the day to day cover and supply requirements and ensuring supervision during classes during short-term absence of teachers

Main Purpose:



To be responsible for organising daily teaching staff cover within the school To lead on the deployment of the team of Cover Supervisors and agency staff, ensuring a high standard of cover lessons are achieved Ensuring that duties and general support is provided To ensure cover for absent staff and to ensure cover supervisors deliver excellent learning activities for classes To manage recording staff absences

Lead Cover duties:



Responsible for managing coordinating the team of Cover Supervisors, with regard to performance management, development, coordination and allocation of work Being the key point of contact for staff with any issues regarding the Cover Supervisors Responsibility for staff cover within the school, including the coordination and organisation of advance and emergency cover, planning the cover through SIMS and liaising directly with cover supervisors & other staff, supply staff and agencies to ensure cover is provided To be responsible for ensuring appropriate documentation has been received from external supply agencies confirming that DBS and right to work checks are in place and recorded for supply staff used To ensure that an effective and efficient cover service is provided To have control of the cover budget and To check agency invoices against timesheets, to ensure correct payment made To report on absences and notify managers and SLT

Teaching and Learning duties (this is desirable of applicants, not essential):



Supervising the students on work left in accordance with the school policy Assisting in preparing the learning environment and the materials used therein Assisting with the management of student behaviour to ensure a constructive working environment Responding to students about the work that has been set Collecting any work completed after the lesson and returning it to an agreed person/place Leaving the room in good order at the end of the lesson Supervising entry and departure of students in accordance with school policy Recording and reporting attendance at lessons in accordance with school policy Reporting back as appropriate using the schools' agreed referral procedures on the behaviour of pupils during the class and any other issue arising. Dealing with any immediate problems or emergencies according to the schools' policies and procedures

General:



Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security and confidentiality, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person Perform any task or duty under the reasonable direction of the HR and /or Business Manager Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the school Attend and participate in meetings as directed Participate in training and other learning activities as required Assist in the supervision, training and development of cover staff Undertake any other such duties which might be reasonably regarded as within the responsibility of the post, as directed by the line manager or members of the SLT.
