We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional to join our UK Senior Management team as the Head of Health, Safety, Environment and Sustainability. In this corporate role, you will be responsible for overseeing the Health, Safety, Environment and Sustainability at a Country level across United Kingdom and Ireland, whilst driving improvement across the wider UK business. You\xe2\x80\x99ll be reporting to the Country Managing Director, the Health, Safety, Environment and Sustainability Manager will be the subject matter expert for the company and have overall accountability for the processes to keep our employees and contractors safe and driving our sustainability strategy. You will ensure a high level of compliance with HSE law at our Head Office, satellite offices, and on our construction sites, and lead the implementation of the Hitachi Energy Sustainability 2030 strategic plan. Responsibilities:


  • Provide assurance to the Country Managing Directors and the wider organisation, by means of appropriate monitoring and intervention, that operations fulfil the obligations under Health, Safety and Environmental legislation.

  • Contribute to effective management of sustainability related issues by providing specialist knowledge and advice on key business decisions to the UK Senior Management Team and Business Units.

  • Act as the conduit between Hitachi Energy Group and Hitachi Energy UK and IE, by supporting the Hitachi Energy Sustainability 2030 strategic plan & beyond, leading on the implementation of Group objectives & targets and programs in the UK and IE.

  • Represent Hitachi Energy at wider engagement events with senior external stakeholders. Leveraging professional networks to identify potential collaborations and synergies with similar enterprises to drive innovation and business benefits.

  • Work with clients to understand their sustainability priorities and help to create value for customers by supporting the Front-end Sales/Tendering teams, by identifying opportunities and carbon savings leading to Net Zero.

  • Facilitate improvement workshops and support the Sustainable Development Goal Workstream Leaders with identifying sustainable programmes/solutions.

  • Conduct sustainability assessments, identify improvement areas, and establish performance metrics to measure progress.

  • Research both the Company and Employee Sustainability benefits to improve employee engagement, retention, and performance.

  • Coordinate and align health and safety initiatives across the businesses with the aim of standardisation within the UK and IE legal entity and track progress of implementation.

  • Monitor HSE performance metrics, leading and lagging indicators. Collecting and analysing data to produce regular reports that communicate performance, trends, and areas for improvement to stakeholders, management, and regulatory bodies.

  • Proactively engage, challenge & influence colleagues to create a behavioural-led culture to deliver HSE compliance and drive continuous improvement in HSE performance.

  • Manage the submission of statutory environmental data on behalf of Hitachi Energy UK Ltd. \xe2\x80\x93 CEMARs, ESOS, SECR etc.

  • Lead and coordinate the UK and IE Certification programs with the respective business units and review of legal compliance.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor\'s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Sustainability, or a related field. A Master\'s degree is preferred.

  • Proven experience in HSE management and sustainability within the renewable energy or related industry.

  • In-depth knowledge of HSE regulations and sustainability frameworks, including; CDM, ISO 19001, 14001 and 45001.

  • Strong understanding of renewable energy technologies and their environmental impacts.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement effective HSE management systems and sustainability strategies.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to drive data-driven decision-making.
