Your Role
As Contracts Manager, you will oversee and manage all aspects of construction contracts--from tender through to completion and handover. You'll play a crucial role in ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards. Acting as the key liaison among clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams, you'll drive project performance, manage risks, and resolve disputes while ensuring full compliance with all regulations and policies.
Key Responsibilities:
Contract Management:
+ Review, negotiate, and administer construction contracts to ensure compliance and mitigate risks throughout the project lifecycle.
Project Oversight:
+ Manage multiple contracts and project phases, monitoring progress against programme and budget.
Stakeholder Engagement:
+ Serve as the primary contact for clients on contractual matters, attend site meetings, and build strong relationships.
Procurement & Subcontractor Management:
+ Support procurement activities, negotiate terms with subcontractors, and monitor performance.
Team Leadership & Line Management
+ Provide effective line management for internal project personnel by offering guidance, mentoring, and performance oversight to ensure cohesive, high-performing teams.
Dispute Resolution & Claims:
+ Proactively manage claims and disputes through thorough documentation and record-keeping, collaborating with legal advisors as needed to mitigate risk and protect company interests.
Commercial & Financial Control:
+ Collaborate with quantity surveyors on valuations, variations, and accounts; ensure accurate reporting and sustained profitability.
Health & Safety Compliance:
+ Promote strict adherence to health and safety regulations, supporting audits and inspections as required.
About You
You're a hands-on leader with proven experience in contract management within the UK construction industry, underpinned by strong trades expertise and a genuine passion for construction. You understand the demands of working on-site and bring practical knowledge that complements your strategic and leadership skills.
With a solid grasp of construction contracts like JCT and NEC, you possess exceptional communication, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities. Experience in heritage and restoration projects is a bonus, but your dedication to delivering quality and driving improvement stands out. You thrive in dynamic environments, capably managing multiple projects under pressure while maintaining a commitment to excellence
Key Requirements:
Solid background in construction contract/project management.
Strong trades experience and site management expertise.
Expertise in UK construction contracts (JCT, NEC).
Exceptional communication, leadership, and negotiation skills.
Strong commercial acumen and financial control capabilities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and contract/project management software.
Passion for construction and continuous improvement.
Desirable:Degree/HNC in Construction Management or related field.
Desirable:Professional body membership (RICS, CIOB, ICES).
