The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) offers hybrid working \xe2\x80\x93 this means that whilst the role will be based in one of our offices, there will be opportunities for an element of working from home.

This role is available at all core locations (Birmingham, Leeds, Liverpool, London) with Hybrid working or Home working available subject to approval. The balance between home and workplace working will be agreed with the line manager, determined primarily by business needs and in line with departmental policy.

We\xe2\x80\x99re looking for a personable, flexible individual who is an expert in written communications and who can think strategically about the content design challenge at hand, considering both the user and the wider organisational perspective.

You will work in a multidisciplinary matrix environment with a range of internal and external stakeholders.

Data Product Development team is committed to providing products and services that underpin Agency objectives and support intended business outcomes. Our vision is to protect the nation\'s health through technology, identifying, designing, developing, deploying, securing, and running reliable, credible and trusted IT services. We do this by delivering services which meet and maintain the Government Digital Service (GDS) Digital by Default Service Standard (https://www.gov.uk/service-manual/digital-by-default).

This is an exciting opportunity to join UKHSA as a Content Designer within our Data Product Development division. You will get the opportunity to lead on the development of our data products including dashboards like the award winningCoronavirus (COVID-19) in the UK dashboardand our newWeather-Health Alerting System.

Working in an agile environment with colleagues in our user-centred design and data teams you will work closely with key stakeholders to set priorities for the future development of these services, owning of the product roadmap and responsible for effective management of the product.

  • Design content to meet user needs and make complex language and processes easy to understand
  • Start from discovery and work closely with user researchers, service designers and interaction designers
  • Support the team in using data and evidence to make informed decisions about content
  • Write, edit and publish user-centred content for a range of audiences
  • Work collaboratively with project team members and others to maintain good working relations both internally and externally (for example, the Government Digital Service and Government Statistical Service)
  • Communicate with stakeholders clearly and regularly, clarifying mutual needs and commitments through consultation and consideration of impacts while focusing on user needs
  • Keep abreast of new industry approaches to content design for digital learning and continuously work to improve content strategies, create new content and iteratively improve existing content across digital channels to meet user needs and departmental objectives
  • Keep up to date on and use the style guide and other standards to design high quality, accessible content
  • Be an active member of the content design community, contributing to knowledge of best practices

Essential Criteria: The post holder will have:
  • Experience of designing content to meet user needs, making complex language and processes easy to understand
  • Experience using data and evidence to make informed decisions about content
  • Experience of writing, editing and publishing user-centred content for digital audiences that complies with relevant standards and style guides
  • Experience of working in an Agile or similar multidisciplinary environment
  • Ability to identify, analyse, manage and monitor relationships with and between stakeholders. Communicating with stakeholders clearly to clarify mutual needs and commitments
  • User focussed with the ability to translate user stories and propose design approaches or services to meet these needs
  • Able to take ownership of the product from end to end, and be responsible for liaising with others to ensure delivery of outputs
  • Detail-focussed, you ensure everything is accurate and error free
  • Able to handle constructive criticism of your work and to constructively review other people\xe2\x80\x99s work
  • Ability to work without supervision, organising your own work and often working to tight and changing timescales
  • An understanding of and commitment to equality of opportunity and good working relationships.

  • Experience of using agile tools and techniques

Selection Process

Stage 1: Application & Sift

This vacancy is using Success Profiles, and will assess your Behaviours and Experience.

As part of the application process you will be asked to provide a Personal Statement / Statement of Suitability in no more than 750 words. We will be assessing essential criteria/ desirable criteria at sift.

This should outline your skills, experience, and achievements, providing evidence of your suitability for the role, with particular reference to the Experience criteria or the essential criteria (outlined in the person specification section).

You will also be asked to provide information within the \xe2\x80\x98Employer/ Activity history\xe2\x80\x99 section of the application form. This is equivalent to the information you would provide on a CV, setting out your career history. This will be used in the sifting process and will be scored

Stage 2: Panel Interview

All applicants that progress to interview will be assessed on behaviours / experience through Success Profiles. The interview will be held remotely via Microsoft Teams

Reserve List:
Candidates who pass the interview criteria but are not offered a post will be kept on a reserve list for 12 months and may be contacted if similar roles become available.

DBS -People working with government systems must complete Basic Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) checks which includes a disclosure and barring security check.
