The Trauma and Orthopaedic Service is currently based at 2 sites, Russells Hall Hospital (RHH) and Corbett Outpatient Centre (CH) which are the primary referral centres for Dudley patients requiring trauma and orthopaedic care. The department currently consists of 13 full time substantive consultants, two part time consultants providing the Paediatric Orthopaedic Service, nine permanent middle grades, and two deanery registrars (SPR) and one fixed term arthroplasty fellow.
This is a full time substantive appointment consisting of 10 PAs, as a Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery. The Trauma & Orthopaedic Service runs over 2 sites, Russells Hall Hospital and Corbett Oupatient Centre and the appointee will be expected to travel to between both sites with adequate travel time allowed in job plans and expenses.
The post holder will be expected to support the trauma and elective service and help the existing surgeons in developing the service to ensure a comprehensive service with particular provision of hand subspeciality.
The post holder will have a commitment for the provision of elective hand surgery as well as general (especially hand) trauma services at Dudley Group. It is expected that the post holder will play a key role in the development of hand surgery services in the trust, working with colleagues within the department and allied professionals in the therapy department. Fellowship training in the subspeciality is desirable/expected for this post.
The long term vision for the department is that most hand elective and trauma cases will be managed within the trust, while maintaining crucial links with the tertiary centre for further specialist input. We have a dedicated hand surgeon and want to expand the service.
There are elective and trauma theatre sessions, plus outpatient clinics for new and follow-up appointments
To ensure that up-to-date evidence/research based practice is brought to the knowledge of all colleagues and staff. To take an active role in Clinical Governance. To participate in ongoing clinical, multi-disciplinary audit and promote research.
